Obituary: H. Hafemeister, Auto Salesman, Dies Suddenly--Heart Attack Kills Well Known Business
Man Here Early Today--Herbert E. Hafemeister, one of Watertown's most widely known business
men, head of the Hafemeister Motor Sales, Inc., died early today at his home, 418 College
avenue, from a heart attack. Mr. Hafemeister had suffered from a heart ailment for some time, but
this fact was little known among his friends. The past several days he had been at home because
of illness, but last evening had gone to his office and later returned home. He died shortly after
midnight.
Born in the town of Ixonia, July 17, 1897, he was a son of Mrs. Emelie Hafemeister and the
late William Hafemeister. His entire life was spent in this section, most of it in Watertown. He was
married to Miss Ruth Bogenschneider on August 3, 1927. His wife and a son, Herbert, Jr., aged
six, survive. His mother, who resides at 300 Seventh street, also survives as do four sisters and
three brothers, Mrs. Edwin Tietz, Miss Irene Hafemeister and Mrs. Lydia Gauerke, this city, Mrs.
Reuben Gamm and William Hafemeister, this city.
Mr. Hafemeister started his business career as a salesman and later, when he went in
business for himself, he remained above all a salesman. He had a personality that easily lent itself
to the business world and which made for him many staunch friends. News of his death today
shocked the community. Hardly anyone, aside from his family and a few intimate associates,
knew that he suffered from a heart ailment. He was always cheerful and seldom complained of
feeling ill. A man devoted to his business, he was also interested in community affairs and always
joined in any worthwhile movement for the city. His friends were many.
He was a member of St. mark's Lutheran church. The body was taken to the Hafemeister
funeral home.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the Hafemeister funeral home where
services will be conducted at 1;30 o'clock. At 2 o'clock there will be a service in St. mark's church.
The Rev. Julius Klingmann and the Rev. William Eggert will officiate and interment will be in Oak
Hill cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home to pay their respects Tuesday afternoon and evening and
Wednesday up to the time of the service.
Herbert E. Hafemeister and Ruth Charlotte Bogenschneider. They were married on 03 Aug 1927
in Watertown, Jefferson, Wisconsin. They had 1 child.
