ATTORNEY'S REPORT.

HONORABLE AND DEAR SIRs-The period covered by this report is
from August 12, 1913, when the present administration of the Legal
Department began its work, to the present date. The following is a brief
summary of the condition of the department and of the services performed.
At the beginning of the administration, it became necessary to install
a system that generally obtains in law offices. To that end, metal filing
cases were bought for the safe and systematic keeping of court files.
papers and documents necessary in the conduct of the department. Indices
and cross-indices and references to these files were arranged. All
files are now numbered with card index references thereto.
Inasmuch as no docket of the matters pending in the deparbnent
were kept, one was purchased, and entries were made therein as to all
pending cases in conformity to the court entries. This docket shows the
present status of each case as it now appears in court.
The following cases were transmitted to this department by Honorable
Charles B. Pavlicek:-
City of Chicaso "a. Mary B. c.se.
Circuit Court of Cook County, Gen. No. 323082.
This is a condemnation suit brought by the City of Chicago. The
West Chicago Park Commissioners is impleaded as a necessary party,
because of its interest in tax liens. The suit was settled by an agreed
verdict December 23, 1913. All money has not yet been paid to the
County Treasurer by the City. Upon its payment to the County Treasurer,
collection will be made of the Board's share of these taxes.
