Celebrating 41 years of the triumph lifestyle
Volume 14 Issue 8 August 2010
Bill Sheldon’s July Pool and BBQ Party A hearty group of Triumph owners gathered at the backyard
of host Bill Sheldon. After a bit of exchanging trivial problems and a lot of information, but very little
about Triumphs, Bill commenced to cook the Cheese and Hamburgers on his Grill. And our new member
Steve Loeffler drove his very nice and newly restored 1969 TR6. It was the only TR present except the one in
Bill’s garage. Steve has owned his 1969 since new and bought it while in the Navy. It is the same year and
color as Ann Pogue’s. It was a very warm day and was probably the reason only Steve drove his Triumph. A
very special Thank You to Bill Sheldon for hosting this event.

Special Notes”
There are several events coming up for our club members. In September the Coronado Speed Fest at the
North Island Air Station will be held September 25-27. Car Corral passes are available for members. President
Dave will obtain passes for members. These passes entitle a car club member to park in the special area.
A fee for entry to the festival is required.
British Car Day will be held the week before Triumphest on October 3. Our club has been assigned the task
of parking. Jim Porter is in charge and ask the 5 or 6 members to volunteer to help with this task. It requires
arriving at the venue at Liberty Station early the day of the event and to mark areas. It is a much easier task
than was required at Fallbrook. Let Jim Porter know if you can help.
President’s Message Dave Stauffacher
This is the 272 nd day of my being held hostage by the Progressive Insurance Company. But progress is being
made – not on the car but on me. For the first time since the accident I’m not feeling any pain. I had four
nerve blocks a couple of weeks ago that really helped. Today I had an epidural injection so I’m really feeling
good! Next week I’ll have four more nerve blocks. I’m not crazy about the procedure but the doctor does a
good job of making it painless as possible. And given how it makes me feel afterward, I looking forward to it!
Now that my body is on the mend I am confident that my car will eventually be on the mend, too. I decided to
remove the PI system, flood it with gas, plug it up and put it in storage before the seals dry up. I’ll eventually
end up removing all the after market modifications soon and store them away, too.
Triumphest is coming along quite smoothly. All the events are firm and lots of people are volunteering to assist
or donating what they can to help. All the hard work by your planning committee is paying off! The creativity
and enthusiasm shown by this group is truly amazing. As we are prone to say “Having been some
days in preparation, a splendid time is guaranteed for all.”
See you on the road.
THE HIGHLAND GAMES by Angus Murdoch
Nancy and I were eager to go to the Highland Games with the club last month but as a Scottish Bard said many
years ago. Best laid schemes of mice and men aft gang agley.
Friday prior to the games I checked all the vitals of the TR-6, gassed up and it's ready to go. Checked with
Kevin to determine if we were to have a picnic and promised to bring sausage rolls. Nancy got the ingredients
for the rolls and set the alarm for 6:00am such that she could make the rolls the morning of the games.
Saturday morning we are up and at it (believe me 6:00am is early for Nancy) around 7:00am I go to the garage
to move the 6 into the drive way, turn the key and nothing happens.
I had left the GPS plugged in over night to an un switched outlet so I assumed that had drained the battery. No
sweat, I have high output charger so we will be fired up in 30 minutes or less.
However, needless to say this did not happen, and the trip to the Games was off but at least we had a pile of
fresh sausage to chew on.
Incidentally, after discussing the issue with Frank Conklin at the last club meeting he asked me if I had tried
another battery since the battery in the 6 may have a dead cell. Following Frank's suggestion I took the battery
from our TR-3 and the 6 fired up right away. Thanks Frank, I should have tried this the morning of the games
since I had experienced this type of problem over the years on other cars. It must be age.
AUTO MUSEUM REPORT JULY 2010. by Angus Murdoch
The Greatest Show On Turf on June 5th was quite a success. Total income was $ 7,849.00 expenses to date are
$ 4,138.00 with a net profit of $ 3,711.00. The profit will be divided equally between the Auto Museum and
the Car Club Council.
Our club, based on percentage of membership, had the highest participation of all the car clubs that are members
of The Car Club Council. Thanks again for the outstanding support.
The location for the car show next year has yet to be determined. There is a proposal in the works to move the
show to the River Walk golf course by the Town and Country Convention Center. This is due to excessive fees
that the city of San Diego charge for the show to be held in Balboa Park

VISTA HIGHLAND GAMES by Kevin Schulte
This year's outing to the Highland Games in Vista turned out splendidly. We had a very good showing of
Triumphs with none of the other clubs joining us.
We all assembled at the Park & Ride off I-78 and then proceeded to the Gathering of the Clans at Brengle
Terrace Park. There were a total of ten cars as we left for the games:
Bill Sheldon & Lynn; TR4A Bob Palmer & Noreen; TR7
Mary Turner 7 Hailie; TR250 Larry Smith; TR7
Garth Brown; TR3A John Popp; TR3B
Dave & Sara Claypool; TR6 Frank Conklin; TR3A
Matt Turner & Aurora; TR2 Kevin & Vicki Schulte; TR6 Betty and Jerry Fischer; TR 4
As we entered the park, there
was a frantic call from Betty
and Jerry Fischer saying they
were five minutes away. They
arrived, in their TR4, as we
were setting up camp on the ball
field. That brought our total to
eleven. Best turn out in many
years!
There was a lot of interest in
our cars as passers-by stopped
to chat and ask questions. By
noon we were ready for some
lunch and the Opening Ceremonies.
As the pipes and drums
marched by, we were sharing
the goodies we had brought and
enjoying the festivities from our
dugout vantage point.
After lunch there was not much time to take in all the entertainment offered. We had agreed to exit by 2:00
and that gave us a little time to watch the sheep dogs and then make it back to our cars. Maybe next year we
will plan to stay until 3:00 so we have more time to savor the music and some of the competitions.
But the weather couldn't have been nicer and the same goes for the company. Let's hope next year is as
much fun.
