The 18 th edition of the internationally
renowned cardiology course – EuroPCR 2008
– took place mid May.
Under construction since 1882:
the Temple Expiatori de la
Sagrada Família, often simply
called the Sagrada Família, is
one of the most popular attractions
in Spain.
EuroPCR is a unique course aiming to contribute
to the advancement of education
and information on existing and new technologies
in percutaneous interventions
in the fields of coronary, peripheral, valve
and non-coronary cardiac disease, cardiothoracic
and vascular surgery and imaging.
During the four day course, the programme
focused on two key messages: “what is best
for my patient” and “together we achieve
more”. This patient-centred approach consolidated
innovative technology and established
learning pro cesses. Participants had
the chance to learn and share experiences
with some of the world’s leading cardiology
experts during more than 100 hours
of live transmission from 17 international
centres.
This year’s event – in addition to allowing
professionals to share experiences – included
the launch of an important initiative
to provide training and aid in the field
of cardiovascular disease in sub-Saharan Africa
– a joint collaboration of EuroPCR, the
Government of Monaco and EAPCI. This
important initiative was announced during
the opening ceremony of the Course and
is endorsed by H.S.H. the Prince Albert II
of Monaco. According to Marc Doncieux,
President of Europa Organisation, “we are
extremely proud to have been able to welcome
His Serene Highness to our annual
course and believe that his support of the
cardiovascular training initiative will be vital
in ensuring the success of the project”.
Other highlights of this year’s event included
the EuroPCR awards ceremony and
the presentation of the Alicia Foundation,
created by the Generalitat de Catalunya
and Caixa Manresa dedicated to food and
science that was presented by the highly
acclaimed chef Ferran Adriá and leading
cardiologists Valentin Fuster and Carlos
Ruiz.
Regarding the future, Marc Doncieux
confirmed “the 19 th edition of EuroPCR
will return to the Barcelona International
Convention Centre in 2009 and, following
a very productive meeting held with the
key city hoteliers this week, and with the
continued support of the local authorities
we are hopeful that we will be able to host
this important event in this beautiful city”.
Dräger’s non-invasive ventilation (NIV) technology holds the key.
By offering NIV across our complete line of ventilators and integrating
SyncPlus ® advanced leakage compensation technology, we can support
your efforts to both avoid intubation whenever possible, and facilitate
rapid weaning and extubation. As a result, the use of NIV for acute
respiratory failure has the potential of reducing hospital morbidity,
shortening patient length of stay and reducing the cost of care; while
at the same time improving patient comfort.
Yet this is just one aspect of our integrated CareArea Solutions, to
impact your entire patient care process. To discover how all our
innovative solutions can impact your care process,
