gEnERal goVERnMEnT<br />
The General Government Department includes the Village Manager’s office,<br />
Legal, Public Relations and Human Services.<br />
ThE PuBliC hEalTh & nuRSing diViSion<br />
The Public Health and Nursing Division inspects public and commercial<br />
facilities and checks reports of community health problems.<br />
Schaumburg’s community blood drive is coordinated by this department. Also<br />
offered are a variety of health services including wellness clinics, TB clinics and<br />
seasonal immunizations.<br />
Home care is provided to those who do not qualify for other programs. A<br />
physician’s order and assessment by a registered nurse are required for<br />
admission to this program. The Access to Care Program allows medically<br />
indigent residents to receive primary health care. Intake for this program is<br />
offered through the Nursing Division. Also international travel certificates are<br />

huMan SERViCES diViSion<br />
Family counseling is available to residents at the Family Counseling Center<br />
(847-524-3766).<br />
ThE BaRn<br />
The Schaumburg Barn serves as a second home for many of the area’s seniors<br />
and disabled friends. The Village of Schaumburg’s programs for seniors and<br />
disabled provide food, fun, and fellowship, as well as an opportunity for<br />
seniors to help their fellow seniors and their community. The Barn is located at<br />

SChauMBuRg TEEn CEnTER<br />
The Schaumburg Teen Center provides recreational activities and emotional<br />
support for residents ages 12 to 19. Adult supervision is provided and adult<br />
volunteers are always needed. (847-524-3388)<br />
CoMMuniTY dEVEloPMEnT dEPaRTMEnT<br />
The Community Development Department is responsible for economic<br />
development, planning, code enforcement, zoning, development engineering,<br />
building construction and environmental health. Subsequent to the five major<br />
functions, a myriad of more specialized programs provide a complete palate<br />
of public services, including; landscape programs, neighborhood planning,<br />
residential tear down assistance, permitting services, building code<br />
compliance inspections, land development services, code enforcement, health<br />
code enforcement, and fire inspection services.<br />

Overall, the purpose of the Community Development Department is to<br />
provide a complete array of functions which leads to a yet stronger business<br />
and residential climate within the village. Oversight and administration of all<br />
planning and economic development functions for the village are<br />
accomplished by reviewing new development and redevelopment proposals,<br />
implementing economic development strategies, administrating the<br />
comprehensive plan, conducting long range planning projects, performing<br />
landscape design and inspections, insuring safe building construction,<br />
oversight of exciting new subdivisions, implementation of fire suppression<br />
systems, licensing and inspection of almost 500 restaurants and enforcement<br />
of residential and commercial codes.<br />
Important funding sources include Village of Schaumburg General Funding,<br />
Olde Schaumburg Centre Tax Increment Finance District and Community<br />
Development Block Grant funds.<br />
Department staff, through the various functions and programs, serve as liaison<br />
to several boards, commissions and committees. These include the Zoning<br />
Board of Appeals (ZBA), Plan Commission (PC), Olde Schaumburg Centre<br />
Commission (OSCC), Schaumburg Business Development Commission (SBDC),<br />
Electrical Commission (EC), Environmental Committee (ECOM), Board of<br />
Health (BH) and Tax Increment Finance District Joint Review Board (TIFJRB).<br />
Additionally the Director of Community Development sits in membership on<br />
the Board of Local Improvement (BOLI).<br />
The Department also provides appropriate staff assistance to the Village<br />
Board (VB), via the Village Manager and the Office of the Village Manager.<br />
CulTuRal SERViCES dEPaRTMEnT/PRaiRiE CEnTER foR ThE aRTS<br />
Established in 1986 and renovated in 1997, the Prairie Center for the Arts is<br />
Schaumburg’s cultural jewel. Including a 442-seat theater, exhibition gallery,<br />
television studio, lakeside outdoor amphitheater, state-of-the-art lecture hall<br />
and comfortable meeting rooms, the Prairie Center has become a regional<br />
cultural hub. Hundreds of locally produced and national touring shows grace<br />
the Prairie Center’s stages each year and include: music, theater and dance<br />
geared to all ages and cultural interests. A programming guide is printed<br />
