Note: CPI (A), CPI(B) and CPI(C) are compiled based on the expenditure patterns of households in the
relatively low, medium and relatively high expenditure ranges respectively. A Composite CPI is compiled based
on the overall expenditure pattern of all the above households taken together. The CPI(C) was formerly known
as the Hang Seng CPI and was compiled by the Hang Seng Bank since 1974.
Starting from the reference month of July 1999, the data collection and compilation work of the index have been
taken up by the Census and Statistics Department and the index has been renamed as CPI(C).
