1.PK.1 Identify the basic vocabulary of simple movement<br />

patterns (e.g., walk, run, jump, hop, climb, etc.).<br />

2.PK.1 Demonstrate a basic form in walking, running, climbing,<br />

jumping, hopping, and walking up and down stairs.<br />

2.PK.2 Perform a variety of large motor skills (e.g., throw<br />

a ball in purposeful direction, attempt to catch a large ball).<br />

motor movements (e.g., running, jumping<br />

or climbing).<br />

Practice a variety of motor skills while<br />

engaged in outdoor play.<br />

Participate in games that require trying<br />

new skills.<br />

Supportive Practice: Practitioner/Adult will…<br />

Provide opportunities to move indoors<br />

and outdoors.<br />

Model and verbally label simple movement<br />

patterns.<br />

Sing songs that label movement pattern<br />

such as “Skip to My Lou.”<br />

Ask children to demonstrate motor skills<br />

when transitioning to activities (e.g., tiptoe to<br />

the center you choose).<br />

Use descriptive movement words with characters<br />

or objects (e.g., gallop like a horse” or “spin like<br />

a top”).<br />

Turn on music, hold up cards with a visual of<br />

movements (e.g., jump, clap, and stomp) for the<br />

children and let them perform the movements.<br />

Play games such as “Mother May I” to label<br />

and practice movement patterns.<br />

Make lotto or memory games with movement<br />

patterns and let children demonstrate the motor<br />

skill as they play the games.<br />

When reading books with movement or<br />

action words, point them out and allow children<br />

to imitate.<br />
