prevention skills (e.g., hand washing).<br />

Read and talk about germs and how<br />

they spread.<br />

Have children help with clean up routines.<br />

Read books about community helpers and<br />

talk about what they do.<br />

Invite community helpers to visit your<br />

Put community helper dress up clothes and<br />

props in the dramatic play area and outdoors.<br />

Read and talk about what our bodies need<br />

to be strong and healthy.<br />

Sort pictures or make a graph of things<br />

that we need and don’t need to be healthy<br />

(e.g., food vs. video games).<br />

Talk about air and how we need to breathe<br />

clean air to be healthy.<br />

Include water play indoors and out and talk<br />

about how we need water to live.<br />

Talk about feelings and have children<br />

demonstrate the appropriate facial<br />

expressions and body language.<br />

Read books about expressing feelings,<br />

then discuss them, and role play situations.<br />

Sing songs that express emotions such<br />

as “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”<br />
