Recorded in all capital letters for ease of use, title statements appear as they do in
the works themselves and continue up to the point where they are interrupted by other
material or other statements. Occasionally, information needed for the sake of clarity has
been added in brackets at the end of a title statement. Most frequently this has been
information about a volume or part. When punctuation has been added to a title
statement to promote clarity, it has been surrounded by brackets.
Editor/participant, edition, and series/at-head-of-title statements may be from the
work itself or other sources. Subsequently, there is occasional variation in the text of
series statements about the same series in different editions of the same work, as no effort
has been made in this catalog to standardize such information. In fact, the usual practice
is to use text found in the works themselves in preference to that supplied by other
sources.
The publisher statement contains all the places of publication which appear on the
title page. These are arranged in the order in which they appear. In the same manner, the
names of the publisher or publishers as they appear on the title page are provided. Printer
information, when different form the publisher, may be included. The date of actual
printing has been preferred. This information is difficult to discern in many cases, as
most of the textbooks appear to have been reprinted over an extended period under the
original copyright date or original date of publication. While publication date
information has generally been derived form the work in hand, in some instances it has
been augmented by information found in some other location in the work or another
source thought to be reliable, such as OCLC records.
Generally, the only pagination reported is that which appears in Arabic numerals
and is printed on the pages of the work itself. Whenever more than one set of pagination
appears separated by commas, another paginated part is being indicated. When
semicolons separate pagination, additional volumes are being indicated (regardless of
whether the work has been bound separately or together).
Additional information about some of the works in this catalog can be ascertained
from notes appended to their records in catalogs on World Wide Web pages maintained
by the Rare Books and Special Collections Department. These pages can be located via
