Subseries G. Conferences, c.1955-1971<br />

Scope and content: Mainly consists of records for Vision 65, 67 and 69. “Vision 64” was<br />

postponed until the following year [i.e. as “Vision 65”]. Also includes 1958 world<br />

conference on the Art and Science of Typography held in Silvermine, Connecticut. Files<br />

for the International Design Conference at Aspen [IDCA] contain correspondence/records<br />

for a proposed East-West design conference to have been held in Japan [eventually<br />

realized as the 1960 World Design Conference (WoDeCo)]. “Japan conference<br />

correspondence” also includes information pertaining to 1957’s 7 th IDC conference.<br />

Additionally, records for individual conferences often display “overlapping” information<br />

regarding past and future conferences. Records for Vis Com ’70, ultimately postponed to<br />

1971 due to fiscal concerns, are filed under International Council of Graphic Design<br />

Associations (ICOGRADA) in Subseries F, Organizations, this series. Quoted folder<br />

headings were taken from <strong>Burtin</strong>’s descriptions of the material.<br />
