Subseries G. Conferences, c.1955-1971
Scope and content: Mainly consists of records for Vision 65, 67 and 69. “Vision 64” was
postponed until the following year [i.e. as “Vision 65”]. Also includes 1958 world
conference on the Art and Science of Typography held in Silvermine, Connecticut. Files
for the International Design Conference at Aspen [IDCA] contain correspondence/records
for a proposed East-West design conference to have been held in Japan [eventually
realized as the 1960 World Design Conference (WoDeCo)]. “Japan conference
correspondence” also includes information pertaining to 1957’s 7 th IDC conference.
Additionally, records for individual conferences often display “overlapping” information
regarding past and future conferences. Records for Vis Com ’70, ultimately postponed to
1971 due to fiscal concerns, are filed under International Council of Graphic Design
Associations (ICOGRADA) in Subseries F, Organizations, this series. Quoted folder
headings were taken from Burtin’s descriptions of the material.
