4.2.10 Trends in the agricultural input trade is shown in Figure 4.2.4. Imports of agricultural inputs surpassed significantly exports during pre and post AFMA periods. Fertilizer (crude and manufactured) shared 53 to 59% of total value of agricultural inputs export values during both pre and post AFMA periods. Likewise, feeding stuff for animals shared a range of 33-36% of average agricultural input export values during both periods (Figure 4.2.5). Major agricultural input imports on the other hand, were dominated by feedstuff and fertilizer with aggregate 72% share of average value during the pre-AFMA period. In contrast, this aggregate share was almost steady (71%) during the post-AFMA years but with the emerging imports of agricultural chemicals and materials (22%) during the AFMA implementation years (Figure 4.2.6).
