Low-Speed, High Efficiency Aerators for Municipal
Low-Speed, High Efficiency
Aerators for Municipal and
Industrial Wastewater Treatment

EIMCO Surface Aerators
Economy, Efficiency AND Reliability
Our low-speed surface aerators provide
economical mixing and aeration in a
wide range of wastewater treatment
applications, including;
• Conventional & complete-mix
activated sludge
• Contact stabilization
• Extended aeration
EIMCO aerator design and construction
reflects forty years of research, testing
and experience in oxygen transfer
mechanics and the hydraulics of aeration
basins. EIMCO aerators deliver a costeffective
combination of optimum
transfer and mixing efficiency,
mechanical reliability, operating
flexibility and low installed cost.
Aeration and Mixing Efficiency
As the aerator's inverted-cone impeller turns,
a strong pumping force is created, raising a
column of water and throwing it outward in
a fine stray of small droplets. The large
air/liquid interface area formed provides
excellent gas transfer. Large pumping
capacity ensures the consistent mixing
essential to activated sludge processes.
Proven Mechanical Reliability
All of our aerators use drive motors
and gear reducers specifically designed
and built for extended service in
corrosive, high moisture environments.
Conservative bearing life and service
factor specifications provide ample
reserve strength for variable operating
loads and stresses. Casings are
completely sealed and non-lubricated
parts are protected against moisture and
contaminants with epoxy paints and
non-hygroscopic coatings.
Inverted cone impellers and drive shafts
are designed to meet stringent thrust
and radial load requirements, and are
fabricated as an integral unit. Straight,
radial blades operate with equal
efficiency in either direction without
fouling. Horsepower draw is readily
varied by one of two methods: changing
the depth of impeller submergence or
2
use of a two-speed drive motor.
Impeller submergence can be
changed by raising or lowering
the water level by means of an
adjustable sliding weir. Two-speed
motors are available in two ranges:
1800-1200RPM and 1200-900
RPM.
Choice of Mounting
Arrangements
Our aerators can be installed on
fixed platforms and bridges, or on
floating platforms buoyed by FRP
pontoons. Ballast compartments
in the pontoons provide variable
buoyancy for power draw
adjustment.

EIMCO Carrousel Aerators
Carrousel Systems Require
Unique Aeration Capabilities
Proper operation of Carrousel
Biological Oxidation Systems hinges
on proper performance of the aeration
equipment. Because Carrousel
Systems are typically designed with
power intensities of only .4 hp per
1000 cubic feet, extremely efficient
aeration is required. Aerators must
also be able to maintain plug flow
conditions and channel velocity of
1 ft/second to keep solids in
suspension. Furthermore, matching
of oxygen input to demand requires
aerators capable of reducing power
draw without loss of mixing.
To satisfy these requirements, all
EIMCO Carrousel System aerators
employ the Hubert impeller, a unique,
open-cone design which achieves
superior pumping and transfer
efficiencies at very low speeds.
Hubert impellers have been
extensively tested and approved for
Carrousel system service by DHV
Raagevend Ingenieursbureau BV of
the Netherlands, designers and
licensors of the Carrousel System.
Not One Single Failure
Carrousel system drive motors and
reducers are essentially identical to
those used in EIMCO surface
aerators. All are designed for
continuous aeration service. Service
3
factors from 2.5 to 3.0 are
commonly used in reducer
specifications, with the result that
in the 30 years since the first
Carrousel System entered service,
not one single aerator gearbox has
failed.
Carrousel System Aerators
Feature:
• Excellent O 2 transfer and
mixing efficiency
• Power turndown without loss
of mixing
• Plug flow channel velocity
> 1 ft/second
• Approved for Carrousel
Aeration service

Aerator Accessories
Accessories for Low-Speed Surface Aerators
Lower Turbines provide supplemental mixing in deep
basins where impeller pumping alone cannot ensure
adequate circulation.
Draft Tubes channel and direct pumped flow into the
impeller. They can be used to provide proper mixing in
deep basins and to control hydraulic loading where aerators
in close proximity cause interference.
Mist Shrouds can be mounted above the impeller to
restrict the flight of spray, or to reduce ice formation on
the underside of the platform.
Baffles ensure smooth hydraulic flow to the impeller and
prevent excessive vortexing. They are available in three
or four blade styles for mounting on platform support
columns or basin floor.
Motor and Reducer Accessories
For low-Speed Surface & Carrousel System Aerators
Oil Level Protection Devices wired to the motor control
center immediately stop the drive motor in the event of
loss of lubrication.
Oil Immersion Heaters provide pre-heating of gearbox
oil after prolonged periods of cold weather shutdown.
Heat Protection Devices stop the aerator drive motor
in the event of excessive heat buildup.
Space Heaters mounted in the motor frame prevent
condensation and/or freezing when the motor is not
running.
Our Low- Speed Surface and Carrousel Aerators are
available in the following horsepower sizes:
5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 100, 125, 150.
Carrousel System Aerators are also available with 200
horsepower drives.
Two speed motors are available for 40 - 150 hp low-speed
surface aerators in 1800/1200 RPM and 1200/900 RPM
ranges.
