ARQUEBUS WAR HISTORY MUSEUM

is one of norway’s leading defence museums. With its many
exciting exhibitions covering 2000 M², the museum leads
the visitor through the dramatic history of the occupation
during WWii. the exhibitions have a broad spectrum including
war and occupation, the battles of 1940, naval warfare,
the merchant marine, the home front, day-to-day life, the
air war, coastal defences, the national defence, and liberation
in 1945. there are many life-size layouts that include
soldiers, canon, tanks, and vehicles. visit the museum and
become acquainted with this important epoch in norway’s
history. suitable for both children and adults. the museum
shop sells military memorabilia, clothing and souvenirs. Museum
café. the arquebus War history Museum is situated
9 km east of haugesund on highway e-134 and is idyllically
located at the innermost part of Førresfjorden. the museum
is well signposted and is just beside highway e-134. during
the last few years the museum has been consistently rated
5 out of 6 for excellence by norwegian daily, vg.
Opening times: 11:00 to 17:00 daily from 01.05-31.08 (also
open on saturdays and sundays). open saturdays and sundays

BOkn BYgdEMUSEUM
the old youth centre at håland on vestre Bokn was turned
into a museum in 1980. over the ensuing years locals have
collected over 4000 objects, which are all on display in this
treasure trove of a museum. the exhibitions include bedrooms,
living rooms, kitchens, a cobbler’s workshop, a classroom, and
a fishing and agriculture section that in combination give visitors
a general impression of old Bokn. the museum also features a
farmhouse, a smoke-curing house, and mill house situated at

dokken open-air Museum is situated on the idyllic island
of hasseløy, which is also known as Bakarøynå. a compact
part of town, dokken has grown in tandem with haugesund
since its inception. here, you can experience sea houses,
herring salting works, a cooper workshop, a general store
and house with living quarters dating from the herring period
of 1850 to 1960. the boathouse contains the museum’s
collection of wooden oar and sail boats, as well as the cooperage
and oven, both of which are used on activity days.
