ARQUEBUS WAR HISTORY MUSEUM<br />

is one of norway’s leading defence museums. With its many<br />
exciting exhibitions covering 2000 M², the museum leads<br />
the visitor through the dramatic history of the occupation<br />
during WWii. the exhibitions have a broad spectrum including<br />
war and occupation, the battles of 1940, naval warfare,<br />
the merchant marine, the home front, day-to-day life, the<br />
air war, coastal defences, the national defence, and liberation<br />
in 1945. there are many life-size layouts that include<br />
soldiers, canon, tanks, and vehicles. visit the museum and<br />
become acquainted with this important epoch in norway’s<br />
history. suitable for both children and adults. the museum<br />
shop sells military memorabilia, clothing and souvenirs. Museum<br />
café. the arquebus War history Museum is situated<br />
9 km east of haugesund on highway e-134 and is idyllically<br />
located at the innermost part of Førresfjorden. the museum<br />
is well signposted and is just beside highway e-134. during<br />
the last few years the museum has been consistently rated<br />
5 out of 6 for excellence by norwegian daily, vg.<br />
Opening times: 11:00 to 17:00 daily from 01.05-31.08 (also<br />
open on saturdays and sundays). open saturdays and sundays<br />

BOkn BYgdEMUSEUM<br />
the old youth centre at håland on vestre Bokn was turned<br />
into a museum in 1980. over the ensuing years locals have<br />
collected over 4000 objects, which are all on display in this<br />
treasure trove of a museum. the exhibitions include bedrooms,<br />
living rooms, kitchens, a cobbler’s workshop, a classroom, and<br />
a fishing and agriculture section that in combination give visitors<br />
a general impression of old Bokn. the museum also features a<br />
farmhouse, a smoke-curing house, and mill house situated at<br />

dokken open-air Museum is situated on the idyllic island<br />
of hasseløy, which is also known as Bakarøynå. a compact<br />
part of town, dokken has grown in tandem with haugesund<br />
since its inception. here, you can experience sea houses,<br />
herring salting works, a cooper workshop, a general store<br />
and house with living quarters dating from the herring period<br />
of 1850 to 1960. the boathouse contains the museum’s<br />
collection of wooden oar and sail boats, as well as the cooperage<br />
and oven, both of which are used on activity days.
