warrants, with some cases targeting organized rings <strong>of</strong> individuals who procure drugs to sell on the<br />
street. As mentioned earlier in the report, prescription drug abuse has reached epidemic proportions in<br />
the United <strong>State</strong>s – and <strong>Minnesota</strong> has not been spared. Consequently, the <strong>Board</strong> considers the PMP to<br />
also be an important priority.<br />
As it has done in the past, the <strong>Board</strong> will continue to routinely assess its operations in order to develop<br />
more efficient policies and procedures and to limit increases in expenditures. However, the <strong>Board</strong><br />
cannot significantly reduce expenditures below current levels. The <strong>Legislature</strong> and Governor appear to<br />
have concurred with this assessment by authorizing an increase in the <strong>Board</strong>’s fees and appropriation<br />
during the 2011 Special Session.<br />
