Description: The sponge point grenade is approximately 4¼ inches long <strong>and</strong> 1½ inches in<br />

diameter. It is prominently marked to be physically <strong>and</strong> visually identifiable during daylight<br />

hours <strong>and</strong> under conditions <strong>of</strong> reduced visibility, such as darkness, fog, or smoke. The propellant<br />

is smokeless to minimize the fouling <strong>of</strong> weapons systems.<br />

Operational Capability/Use: In crowd control situations, this munition gives soldiers <strong>and</strong> law<br />

enforcement <strong>of</strong>ficers a multishot, nonlethal capability to break contact or to enforce a buffer<br />

zone.<br />

Description: This rifle-launched munition requires the user to fire a blank round to launch the<br />

multiple-ball projectiles <strong>and</strong> enables the user to switch rapidly to lethal munitions if necessary.<br />

Operational Capability/Use: The round is designed to be fired at the center mass <strong>of</strong> an adult<br />

subject at distances between 30 <strong>and</strong> 80 meters. Shots fired at subjects closer than 20 meters or<br />

shots aimed at the head or groin may cause serious injury or death.<br />
