STUDENT EVALUATIONS To give some indication of the impact my teaching and learning techniques have had on the courses I have taught, I present my teaching evaluation scores in comparison to the average scores of the Chemistry Department and the College of Basic Sciences at LSU. Graduate courses are denoted by a “G" after the term. I have often times taught two courses per semester, which is unusual for chemistry faculty. My overall average for the seventeen-plus years that I have taught at LSU is 8.84 out of 10.0, which is above the Chemistry Department (8.50) and College of Basic Sciences (8.47) averages for the same period. In addition, my course evaluations are the highest of any faculty member to teach Analytical Chemistry 2001 since its establishment in fall of 1992; this is a notoriously difficult course from a student perspective, so such ratings in this introductory course speaks volumes about my instructional capabilities. From the written comments I receive from students on my evaluations, the large difference in scores is due to my approach to learning and teaching, as outlined above.
