Meet the Trainer: Pre-Paramedic Preparation – Class 8 This 68-hour course is designed to prepare EMT-Bs for successful entry into a paramedic program. Continuing education hours will be granted for EMT CE requirements. Applicants must have a current EMT-B or EMT-II license. Applicants are required to pass EMT-B written and skill examinations. Candidates who pass testing will be assigned an interview. Math and English Assessment All applicants must take the Fresno City College Math and English assessment tests. Testing dates and times are listed on the FCC Web site. Please bring your assessment results to orientation. Paramedic Program – Class 8 The paramedic program provides a comprehensive classroom and clinical experience totaling 1154 hours. Upon your successful completion of all phases of the program you will earn a certifi cate of completion. Your certifi cate of completion will allow you to apply for the National Registry examination. This paramedic program meets or exceeds the requirements in the State of California Safety Code, Title 22; and mirrors the National Paramedic Curriculum developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Program Training Phases: Didactic: Classroom training consisting of 504 hours of lectures, discussions, case-based scenarios, skill demonstrations, skill labs, and other activities. Blackboard, an e-learning platform will be utilized for portions of this training, including: selected assignments, quizzes, and research. Clinical: Clinical education consisting of at least 160 hours completed under supervision of a preceptor in various medical departments such as: emergency; ICU; laboratory; labor and delivery; PICU; pediatrics; cardiac care; surgery; and others. Your schedule will vary based upon clinical site assignments. Your clinical education will begin after your successful didactic completion. Field Internship: The internship training consists of at least 480 hours of fi re service or ambulance service (ALS) under the supervision of a preceptor. During the internship you will assess, extricate, and treat patients in a pre-hospital setting. Your schedule will vary and may include 12 or 24-hour days. You must be able to accept internships throughout California in order to complete the internship. There may be a fee associated with some internships, this fee is the student’s responsibility and is above and beyond the program tuition. Your fi eld internship will begin after your successful clinical education. Advisory: Field experience as a certifi ed EMT-B is strongly suggested. A pre-course examination is required for entrance to the program. Interested applicants are strongly urged to attend the Pre-Paramedic course.
