Palmateer, DanCharles
“Dan” Palmateer, age 60, of
Blue Rapids, passed away on
Sunday, October 14, 2012, at
his home in Blue Rapids after
battling brain cancer.
Dan was born February 9,
1952, in Clay Center to Charles
L. and Martha L. (Luthi)
Palmateer. Growing up south
of Wakefield, he graduated
from Chapman High School in
1970 and from Kansas State
University in 1974. On August
17, 1974, he married his high
school sweetheart, Mary E.
McLaughlin.
Shortly after they were married
Dan and Mary moved to
Blue Rapids and Dan began
work as the new Vo Ag teacher
at Valley Heights High School
where he remained until his

year 11 months 21 days, died
Thursday, October 11, 2012 in
her parents arms following a
life long battle with
Lissencephaly (Smooth Brain
Disorder).
Memorial services will be
held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,
October 16, 2012 at the First
Church of God in Brighton,
Iowa with Pastor Ryan Meader
officiating. Visitation will
begin noon Monday, October
15th at the Jones & Eden

Mooneen E. Sloan, 72, of
Greenleaf, KS, died Friday,
October 11, 2012 at Stormont
Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.
A funeral service was held at
10 a.m., Monday, October 15,
at Ward Funeral Home,
Greenleaf. Pastor Sandra
Jellison-Knock officiated.
A private burial was held in
the Greenleaf City Cemetery.
Mooneen was born May 20,
1940, at Beatrice, NE, daughter
Donald L. Stuart
Donald L. Stuart, age 85, of
Blue Rapids, passed away on
Saturday, October 13, 2012, at
Blue Valley Senior Living in
Blue Rapids.
Don was born July 23, 1927
to Charles H. and Phoebe I.
(Conz) Stuart at Blue Rapids.
He graduated from Blue Rapids
High School in 1945 then
joined the US Army serving in
Korea. On December 9, 1948
he married Barbara E. Brown at
the Methodist Manse in Blue
retirement in 2011. During his
37 years at Valley Heights he
spent many years coaching various
sports and belonged to
several professional vocational
associations.
Early in their marriage Dan
began a wood business, cutting
and selling hedge posts and
firewood and clearing pastures.
Dan enjoyed watching athletic
events and hunting in his spare
time and was well known as a
fastpitch pitcher on the
Highland Green softball team.
Survivors include his wife
Mary, his son Jordan Palmateer
of Blue Rapids, his three
daughters, Danielle L. Raper
and husband Jimmy of Spring,
Texas, Lacey E. Richey and
husband Troy of Waterville and
Brittany B. Gordon and hus-

Oberhelman, 83, of Marysville,
KS, died October 10, 2012 at
Cambridge Place, Marysville.
A funeral service was held at
10 a.m., Saturday, October 13,
at United Evangelical Church
of Christ, Marysville. Rev.
Judy Scott officiated.
Deb Landoll played the
organ while Pat Breeding sang
“Little Brown Church” and
“Old Rugged Cross” and “I
Can Only Imagine.”
The pallbearers will be Lee
Busch, Tim Busch, Jason
Henthorne, Justin Esslinger,
Jonathan Esslinger and Tristin
Detimore.
The honorary pallbearers
will be Brycen Detimore, Mark
Nester and Derek Brown.
Burial was in the Marysville
Cemetery.
Ruby was born at Delia, KS,
daughter of Oral and Anna
Hainlaine Pasley.
In 1949, she married LeRoy
Detimore. He preceded her in
death in 1992.

from Beatrice High School and
then attended 2 years of college
at Fairbury, NE.
On April 23, 1965 she married
James Sloan at Beatrice.
Mooneen enjoyed working
with everyone at Twin Valley
Developmental in Greenleaf.
She loved all of her grandchildren
and family get-togethers.
Mooneen also enjoyed read-
Rapids.
After being discharged from
the Army in 1947 he began
working for the US Postal
Service eventually becoming
the Postmaster at Blue Rapids.
In 1982 he retired from the
postal service after 35 years of
service.
Don attended the Blue
Rapids United Methodist
Church. He was a member of
the Masonic Lodge and the
Odd Fellows Lodge, both locat-

17, 2012, at the Valley Heights
High School Gymnasium
between Blue Rapids and
Waterville.
Pastor Debby Dick officiated
the service, Randy Wecker, Tim
Steele and John Bergkamp
gave eulogies. Music included
a recording of “I Will Always
Love You”, “10,000 Reasons”
sung by Mike Minihan and
“Amazing Grace” sung by the
congregation, Kim Oatney
She attended the First
Church of God in Brighton.
Brooklyn enjoyed music and
loved being snuggled with.
She liked being outside in the
sun and found great pleasure in
being pushed in her swing.
Brooklyn is survived by her
parents, Charlie Hyatt and
Sarah Glaspie of Washington,
Iowa; paternal grandmother,
Nancy Brault of Blue Rapids,
Kansas; maternal grandparents,
Jeff and Danielle Glaspie of
Brighton, Iowa; uncle, Justin
Glaspie of Brighton, Iowa;
uncle Shane Hyatt of
In 1996, she married Donald
Oberhelman. He preceded her
in death in 1998.
She was also preceded in
death by her brothers, Russell
Pasley and Donald
Pasley; and children, Edna
Barnett and Martha Dierking.
Ruby was active in the
Evangelical United Church of
Christ. She enjoyed
bingo, visiting the casinos,
dancing, gardening and canning.
Surviviors include her son,
