FCCH Introduces New Staff Members
Frankfort Community Care
Home would like to introduce
their Administrator, Laura
O’Neil, and their Director of
Nursing, Tish Outhet, to the
community.
Laura received her bachelor
of science degree in nursing
from Marymount School of
Nursing in Salina, KS. In the
years since receiving her
degree, she has accumulated a
wide range of medical experience
including work in
med/surgery, obstetrics, emergency
medicine, cardiac, geriatrics,endoscopy/bronchoscopy,
urology and surgery.
In 2004, Laura began working
on an as needed basis at FCCH,
and in March 2005, she was
appointed director of nursing.
In the fall of 2010, she began
working as an administrator in
training. In 2011, she obtained
a temporary Kansas
Administrator License and was
appointed interim administrator
By Skyler Smith
With the challenge that the
low number of Valley Heights
band members presents, Band
Director Kim Oatney has been
“thinking outside the box” this
year to make music fun and
continue to entertain the community.
Oatney not only organized
the drum line, she also
invited alumni and 6th graders
to participate in pep band at
home football games. “When I
asked what the 6th graders
thought of participating in pep
band their reaction was as if I
told them they won a million
dollars,” said Oatney.
One alumnus who helps the
band two to three times per
at FCCH. In January of this
year, Laura passed the National
Administrator Board test and
became the administrator of the
care home.
Laura lives in Beattie, KS
with her husband, Ron. They
have three children, Ben,
Robert and Melissa (Philip)
Bruna, and one grandchild,
Arthur Bruna. Laura belongs
to the ladies guild at St.
Malachy’s Catholic Church in
Beattie, is the organist for the
church, and is a member of the
American College of Health
Care Administrators.
Tish Outhet, FCCH’s new
director of nursing who only
recently came to the position, is
a lifelong resident of Marshall
County, currently living in
Oketo. Tish received an associate
of science degree from
Highland Community College
and her associate of nursing
from BryanLGH College of
Health Science in Lincoln, NE.
week by assisting during class
is Shelli Miller. Alumnus
Wendy Hale has also helped
pep band at home football
games. Oatney said they serve
as role models sharing their
love of music with current band
members.
Even though Oatney has
thought outside the box this
year, she still faces challenges.
Whether or not the band will
take part in league competition
is still undecided due to the
small numbers of band members
and because alumni and
6th graders are not eligible to
compete. But says Oatney this
challenge will be short-lived as
she looks forward to working
She, too, has acquired a wide
range of medical experience
while working at hospitals in
Beatrice, NE, and Lincoln, NE,
and Marysville. Tish brings a
TEAM philosophy with her to
FCCH—Together Everyone
Achieves More!!!
Tish shares her home with
The Drum Line at the Homecoming parade.
with the 5th and 6th grade
musicians as they move up to
the high school level.
Oatney feels that music is
important because so many
studies show that people
involved in music can multitask
better than those not musically
inclined. It also gives students
who don’t like or don’t
participate in sports a way to be
involved and builds an application
of music that can be
enjoyed throughout a lifetime.
Adrian Young, a new addition
to the VHHS band, is
already on his way of a lifetime
of music appreciation. Young, a
sophomore at VHHS and member
of the Marshal County
her two rat terriers, Payton and
KaDee. She is a member of St.
Gregory’s Catholic Church and
the Altar Society. Helping family
and friend during harvest,
gardening, being outdoors,
cooking, grilling and entertaining
are Tish’s favorite things.
Numbers Won’t Keep Us Down
New Fitness Class Starting
Tony Yungeberg, Director,
Valley Heights Community
Education announced today
that two new fitness classes
will be offered in Waterville.
“Quote from Tony……”
The Older Adult Movement
Class will be offered on
Monday mornings at 9:00am in
the Waterville Community
Center beginning Monday,
October 15th.
Designed to emphasize and
enhance strength, stability and
mobility in an aging population,
this class is sponsored by
Valley Heights Community
Education, and is free to the
public . The hour-long class
includes stretching, weight
training, core strengthening and
movement exercises to enhance
balance and stability. Although
it is designed for older adults,
all ages and fitness levels are
welcome. “This class is a lot of
fun – it’s a pretty easy pace but
you will definitely get a workout”,
says Max Vogler, the class
instructor, “I starte dteaching
this class 5 years ago at the
Brooklyn YMCA – it’s amazing
how much people can
change their bodies no matter
what age they are.”
On Wednesday, October 17th
at 6:30-8:30pm in the
Waterville Elementary School
gym, there will be a free introductory
Pilates open house.
This is a great opportunity to
experience Pilates first hand. If
Laura O’Neil and Tish Outhet
you’ve been curious about it
but never tried it or if you’ve
only worked with taped work
outs, this is your chance to see
how much more effective it is
with a teacher to explain what
you’re trying to achieve.
“Pilates can be pretty mystifying
and intimidating until
you understand the fundamen-
Community Band, also thinks
that music is important. “Music
has inspired me by pushing me
to learn new things.” Young has
learned to play many instruments
including: several types
of guitars, drum set, marching
percussion, tuba, trombone,
clarinet, bass clarinet, trumpet,
bassoon, and French horn.
Oatney wants to let students
know that the band is learning
really fun music with pieces
that include rock and pop. She
welcomes people to join band
with open arms and reminds
the community to attend the
Fall Concert on October 18th at
7 pm.
tals”, says Vogler. “Pilates targets
specific muscle groups
deep in the body that are fundamental
structures of support
and strength – and they're really
hard to find at first because
they’re so deep and they’re
designed to work automatically.
Once you find them though,
they develop really quickly.”
