2. Nutrunner controllers, Tensor DS/DL
Instead of a torque transducer, Tensor DS uses
DigiTork, the digital torque controller developed
by Atlas Copco. Unlike conventionally-controlled
tools, the micro-processor in the DS drive unit
takes motor speed and temperature into account,
as well as the current strength and voltage that
supply the motor.
The ToolsTalk DS software developed by Atlas
Copco gives you access to all DS system programming,
tightening strategies and accessory options
(device bus, I/Os etc.). A Tensor DS or Tensor DL
system comprises the following components:
Tensor DL: DL Controller
DL tool (ETV DL, ETD DL, ETP DL)
Tool cable
Programming software and accessories (optional)
Tensor DS: DS Controller
3.5 ToolsNet
ToolsNet is used to record joint data and also for
production analyses. The program enables each joint to
be tracked and serves to continually optimize processes
via web browsers.
The production data documentation is crucial to
manufacture fault-free products. It forms the basis of
process optimization and at the same time, safeguards
against expensive recall campaigns. ToolsNet is a
proven solution developed specifi cally for recording and
analyzing joint data. Our software has been used
successfully since the end of the 90’s in practically all
production facilities in companies worldwide.
3.6 Event Monitor
Event Monitor outputs real-time result reports from
controllers. The program delivers direct information on
all error messages in a centralized and fi ltered format.
For plants that manufacture high-quality products over
short cycle times, information that enables maximum
availability is key. Event Monitor displays alarms, errors
and events from controllers on the screen of any
computer virtually in real-time.
9

3.7 Factory Overview
The control room program “Factory Overview” is a
logical addition to ToolsNet and its database. ToolsNet is
the melting pot for all tightening data. It indicates, even
at a later date, what was tightened when, where and
how and which tightening values were behind the OK
or NOK result. “Factory Overview” bundles all these
options into one real-time process monitoring operation
and allows all steps in the current tightening process to
be communicated, visualized and analyzed. The
program offers access to ToolsNet and its data memory,
as well as to ToolsTalk and WinTC, which can be used
to confi gure and program manual nutrunners (Tensor S)
and automated nutrunners (PowerMACS). This program
gives a current overview to anyone interested in
assembly events on the line. The user can track in realtime
on his/her PC monitor which nutrunner is active
and how the assembly process looks in the
manufacturing segment in question.
Document OK/NOK status
Our DL tools are the ideal solution for smallscale
tightening jobs. Torques of up to 12 Nm,
ergonomic design and optimized operator safety.
Brushless motor for long service intervals and
low operating costs. Signal lamps, which indicate
all NOK joints to the operator.
The Tensor DL Controller—the brain behind the
system. The DL Drive supplies the nutrunner with
power, controls the tightening process, monitors
assembly and guides the operator, guaranteeing fault
free work from the outset. The DL Drive is designed for
the interchange of data with external transducers and
the line PLC for the purpose of belt control. It can be
used with accessories such as an electronic socket
selector and an RE alarm.
9. ETX nutrunner spindles
Compact, durable and easy to integrate
ETX nutrunners are designed for fi xturing and make life
easier for applications engineers. An ETX nutrunner
spindle can be installed in a variety of ways. For
example, as a “sandwich assembly” for rapid socket
insert holder replacement, or as a directly mounted
nutrunner spindle (“mounted assembly”). The compact
planetary gear permits a close arrangement of
nutrunner spindles, which makes very small bolt
spacings possible at very low cost.
Power Focus 3100 nutrunner control unit
Power Focus 3100 is an improved control system for
almost all electric assembly tools from Atlas Copco:
Tensor DS, S, ST and ETX. The controller offers a broad
spectrum of advanced process control, job, multi-stage,
barcode and scanning functions. In addition, it offers the
most modern communication including Ethernet TCP/IP,
serial RS232 bus and fi eld bus (Device Net, Profi Bus,
InterBus, ModBus Plus and more).
I/O device module – Different
requirements? The I/O device
module can handle them.
kIncreased fl exibility and
productivity
Nutrunner systems are traditionally regarded as
complex and infl exible. That was once true. The Express
Mechanics proves the opposite. A nutrunner spindle
holder from the new Atlas Copco modular system now
makes hand-held multiple-spindle nutrunners possible,
whose simplicity, modularity, fl exibility, stability and
advanced ergonomics make them ideal for the user. The
combination of ETX and Express Mechanics offers an
excellent combination of quality, versatility and long
service life.
installed torque after checks on your applications.
The industrially designed ACTA 3000 together with
the ToolsTalk ACTA software provide you with one
tool management and application management
system. All information of your tools, applications
and tightenings can be stored in one single database
and more important, is easily retrieved and
analyzed.
Our quality assurance and control systems are designed
specifi cally for ensuring that our customers can satisfy
the current requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO
16949. Every product that leaves a production line
should be checked and tested to ensure that every joint
was tightened to the exact specifi cations. Tightening
tolerances vary from one tool and tightening operation
to the next and depend on both product and the purpose
of its use. The many and often complex variables
require a system that is transparent, easy to use and
reliable – a system that eliminates the expensive
consequences of faults and guarantees fault-free
tightening performance in daily use. The combination
of a quality tightening system and tool database
guarantee peak tool performance.
Spindle calibration with the new range of
Atlas Copco transducers
Modern tightening systems are often so complex that
it is not possible to calibrate in the standard production
environment. Atlas Copco offers a solution for automatic
spindle calibration and counter-measurement with simple
and fast set-up facility and optimized accuracy.
The system is available for various types and various
torque ranges (4 to 1000 Nm). Different adaptors enable
it to be connected to QMX, ETX, Tensor DS, Tensor S and
Tensor ST tightening systems.
The benefi ts to you:
Outstanding system accuracy for applications with
scatter below 0.05%
Unsurpassed convenience when performing
measurements through automatic measurement of
torque and rotational angle (ACTA 3000)
Short retooling and measuring times for each
spindle
Special testing facilities no longer required. The
QRTT standard transducer can be used regardless
of spindle and installation type. This saves time and
money with the counter-measurement
Huge savings potential compared with conventional
systems on the market.
15.1 ToolScan RCM
RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) is a widely used
process to optimize your overall service. We analyze
both your existing and new equipment. Together we
determine your service needs and what can be changed
in your present service program and routines. This
process uses the knowledge and data from the whole
chain of expertise. All the way from Atlas Copco R&D
and our service engineers to the customer’s service
people as well your whole chain of service cost drivers.
Service is not just a local issue next to the production
line. It is part of the whole quality and productivity chain
in the production all the way out to your customer. A
wrong working tool or equipment in the production can
have costly impacts all the way to the end-user. For
more information about RCM, please contact your Atlas
Copco representative.
15. Service
15.2 Full Coverage Agreement
Our Full Coverage Service is exactly what it states, a
complete tailored maintenance solution with a fi xed
annual cost. It consists of different standard service
modules that secure the needs and availability of your
equipment. The service is available in combination with
newly purchased equipment as well as for your existing
tools and spindles after a basic check. It provides a full
warranty. The standard type of warranty for new
equipment only covers bad design, material or
workmanship. This covers all unplanned repairs
providing the equipment has not been misused. No
nasty surprises of costly repairs throughout the
contracted period. We inform you in good time if and
when your equipment has to be serviced.

15.3 Preventive Maintenance Agreement
The Preventive Maintenance Service is our standard
recommended maintenance program where maintenance
is done at the correct intervals based on
the ages, usage and application to your tools and
equipment. Maintenance work is carried out either on
your premises or in our central workshop with a fi xed
annual maintenance cost. We also take care of all
planning and data storage during the agreement.
Any additional work found during maintenance is
quoted on a fi xed price basis for completion at either
the next visit or at an Atlas Copco workshop.
15.4 Fixed Price Repair Agreement
In the Fixed Price Agreement you will get a fi xed price
list for repair of your tools to avoid quoting every single
repair. Our experience is that the quoting/ordering
process at many customers can delay the repair for
weeks or even months in some cases. In most markets
we have a local standard fi xed price list for this, but we
also do agreements with a single customer both locally
and globally. The fi xed price repair is a standard repair
routine that allows for quick repairs and less administration
with the benefi t for the customer. Atlas Copco
service box system is very often used in combination
with these agreements. It is especially suitable for our
air tools where the tools not only get repaired but also
receive a preventive maintenance to bring them up to
full performance. This type of service agreement has
showed lower MTBF (mean time between failure) as
well as lower total LCC (life cycle cost).
15.5 Calibration Services
On the assembly line, you need to be certain about
the performance of your power tools and equipment.
The tools have to be calibrated at regular intervals.
These services keep your transducerized tools and
torque measurement equipment calibrated for optimum
performance. Atlas Copco offers a complete range of
calibration services for all your tools and equipment.
Most Atlas Copco Service Centers are today ISO 9000
certifi ed.
15.6 ToolScan TM
Our ToolScan is an effi cient method of precisely
recording the status of your tools, regardless of whether
your service requirement is currently covered internally
or by an external service provider.
After an appointment is agreed, an
experienced member of the Atlas
Copco Service Team will visit your
company at a time convenient to
your production routine. You can
decide whether the measurements
are to be taken at the production
line itself or at a separate station.
This service provides an overall
picture of the tools being used in your production and is
especially useful for those customers who do not have
their maintenance work carried out regularly by the
manufacturer – and all for a fi xed price.
15.7 Training and workshops
We offer an established program of training courses and
workshops to guarantee optimized use of your tools.
These workshops can be held either on your own
premises or in our Training Centre (please contact your
local Customer Center).
15.8 ToolStart
We offer tool installation and start-up by qualifi ed Atlas
Copco engineers at a fi xed price. The service also
includes: programming, test running and operator
training.
16. Advanced Fastening Technology (AFT)
The AFT (Advanced Fastening Technology) package
is your key to cutting costs and reducing lead
times over the entire product development cycle,
from design, prototype build, pilot build, production
planning and ramp-up, through to serial production.
Finding the correct parameters at the design stage
means major time and cost savings downstream. It is
an effective way to reduce overall product costs and
minimize production issues and warranty claims after
product delivery.
This AFT package gives you an overview of our
hardware and software products for joint analysis,
tightening simulation, tool selection and production
support.
Our AFT program will add value to your business by
speeding up your product cycle and assuring quality
right down the line.
Joint integrity matters – quality assurance
from design to serial production
Atlas Copco offers TightSIM – tightening simulation
software that helps you to determine the optimum
tightening method for every joint. We also offer Joint
Analysis. By establishing the correct tightening at the
design stage it is possible to cut lead times and reduce
overall product costs. Our Joint Analysis service
provides your design department with joint data
information from drawings and real joints. Our total
QA offering includes a wide range of key products
and services.
Prototyping build packages—the fast lane
to serial production
Used in combination with our advanced multi-function
Tool Station, Atlas Copco Packages for Prototype Build
operation.
Fastening training – the key to effi cient
production
Effi ciency can be raised by helping personnel gain a
deeper understanding of bolted joints and tightening
methods. Covering the most important theoretical
aspects of fastening technology, Atlas Copco Fastening
Training includes a full range of hands-on exercises and
case studies. The modular design of the material allows
fast, simple confi guration of classes and seminars
ranging from half-a-day to three days in duration.
Atlas Copco – your partner for advanced
fastening technology

Tool Station – much more than
your ordinary tool carriage
Cost effi ciency right along the line
The Atlas Copco Tool Station is a unique tool and aid for
product development. This fully-fi tted mobile assembly
system will increase your working effi ciency and cut
costs over the entire production cycle – from prototype
construction to the pilot phase through to standard
production. And once Tool Station has accelerated the
entire production cycle, it also becomes a backup in
ongoing standard production for your assembly tools,
which import the fi nal assembly process into the Tool
Station database. The Tool Station’s system software
creates a complete parameter set for every bolted joint.
The Tool Station manages an infi nite number of
parameter sets and supports all tightening applications.
All applications are automatically programmed through
the simple import of an Excel application list. Once the
required tightening method is selected via keypad or
touchscreen, the computer sets the suitable control
parameters and the process data can be exported to
MS Excel following tightening. Tools are automatically
selected using the Tool Station’s system software.
Tool Station thus guarantees that the tightening tool and
selected tightening strategy are 100% compatible.
A maximum of 2 controllers enable the operation of
practically every tool, from 1– 4000Nm.
Tests and documentation
The Tool Station controls the tightening tools, whilst
recording and checking the tightening data at the same
time. The electronic torque verifi cation key with
transducer in Tool Station enables the manual
verifi cation and measurement of deformation and
installed torque values. The comprehensive
documentation in Tool Station contains data such as VIN
Code (Vehicle Identifi cation Number), application name,
program name, vehicle type, date, time, parameter
sets, limit values (torque/rotational angle) and tightening
results, including subsidence and installed torque value.
Pre-series production – everything you
need for a swift start
Pre-series production realizes some units, although full
tool equipping at standard level is not achieved at this
early stage. The Tool Station used for pilot phases
contains everything you need for your tightening
specifi cations. Data can be transferred to other carts or
existing ones can be integrated into the project. In
either case, all bolting processes can get off to a quick
start.
