17.9 All windows shall be fitted with durable, firmly installed weather seals to prevent the entrance <strong>of</strong><br />

air and water. Materials used for weather seals shall be designed to withstand varying temperature<br />

extremes, road splash and salt and other exterior elements without cracking, leaking, loosening or<br />

deteriorating.<br />

17.10 There shall be a window on either side <strong>of</strong> the Emergency Door on the rear <strong>of</strong> the bus. These<br />

windows shall be fixed, <strong>of</strong> the maximum size practical, to allow better visibility for the driver.<br />

17.11 A full window shall be provided in the transition panel between the windshield and the<br />

ambulatory passenger door(s) to eliminate the blind spot created by the transition panel and enable the<br />

driver to view the curb from the driver’s seat. The body panel partition between the transition window<br />

and entrance doors shall be as narrow as possible to maximize the driver’s view <strong>of</strong> the area around the<br />

entrance doors.<br />

18 WINDSHIELD WIPERS<br />

18.1 Two electric, motor driven windshield wipers, with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 2 fixed speeds and an<br />

intermittent, variable speed mode, shall be provided.<br />

18.2 The windshield washer shall be electrically operated.<br />

18.3 There shall be a minimum reservoir capacity for one gallon <strong>of</strong> windshield washer fluid.<br />

18.4 The spray tips shall direct a stream <strong>of</strong> fluid into the path <strong>of</strong> travel <strong>of</strong> each windshield wiper blade<br />

each time the actuating button is operated. The stream <strong>of</strong> water must be directed so as to effectively<br />

clean the entire path <strong>of</strong> travel <strong>of</strong> each wiper blade when the vehicle is traveling at highway speeds.<br />

19 EXTERIOR LIGHTING<br />

19.1 All exterior lights must meet Maryland State Department <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicles, Maryland Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Transportation, United States Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety<br />

Standards requirements. All exterior rear and ro<strong>of</strong> marker bus body lights are to be LED with direct<br />

termination and come with protective lens coating for protection against scratching, UV degradation<br />

and a lifetime warranty for the entire light. All LED lights shall be Dialight, or approved equal.<br />

19.2 Headlights shall be the quartz halogen sealed beam type with Daytime Running Lights. The low<br />

beam life rating must be 600 hours minimum.<br />

19.3 Reflectors (amber at front and red in rear) shall be installed on each side <strong>of</strong> the vehicle, as well on<br />

the rear <strong>of</strong> the vehicle.<br />

19.4 Rear lamps shall consist <strong>of</strong> 4” diameter lamps. There shall be four (4) red LED combination stop/tail<br />

lights, two on each side, and separate amber LED turn signal lenses.<br />

19.5 A red LED Center High Mounted Stop Light (CHMSL) shall be mounted in the center <strong>of</strong> the rear<br />

panel above the emergency door as per revised federal automobile regulations. Rear CHMSL to be an<br />

18” LED red strip light, low pr<strong>of</strong>ile surface mount, or approved equal. Rear exterior light configuration<br />

shall be submitted with bid package for approval by the MTA.<br />

19.6 Two 4” diameter bright white LED backup lights shall be provided and shall be supplemented by an<br />

audible backup alarm.<br />

19.7 A rear LED license plate light shall be provided.<br />

19.8 There shall be an override switch to permit continuous flashing <strong>of</strong> the directional signals (hazard<br />

warning lamp system).<br />
