STEVE KOLBE<br />

Radio Play-by-Play<br />

Steve Kolbe returns to the airwaves for his 13th<br />

year as the play-by-play voice of the <strong>Washington</strong><br />

<strong>Capitals</strong> radio broadcasts. A member of the<br />

<strong>Capitals</strong>’ broadcast team since 1995, Kolbe<br />

provides a fast-paced and energetic style to bring<br />

listeners right into the action. His delivery and personality have helped<br />

him broadcast more than 950 regular-season and playoff games, a mark<br />

he eclipsed in 2008-09.<br />

Kolbe became familiar to <strong>Washington</strong> hockey fans when he was named<br />

as the pregame and postgame host for the 1995-96 season. Known<br />

as “The Iceman,” he was also host of Sunday Morning at Center Ice,<br />

a <strong>com</strong>prehensive look at the <strong>NHL</strong>. He began his full-time move to the<br />

booth in 1996-97, when he served as an analyst for the <strong>Capitals</strong> as well<br />

as play-by-play announcer for the American Hockey League’s Portland<br />

Pirates. Kolbe has been a colorful fixture on local sports radio for 17<br />

years in numerous capacities, including talk show host, sports anchor,<br />

producer and soccer studio host.<br />

A 1989 graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in<br />

tele<strong>com</strong>munications, Kolbe enjoys fishing, archery and playing the<br />

drums.<br />

JONATHAN WARNER<br />

Radio Host<br />

Jonathan Warner is in his third season as studio<br />

host on the <strong>Capitals</strong> Radio Network, providing<br />

in-game updates from around the league and<br />

hosting intermission reports, the pre- and<br />

postgame shows and the weekly Saturday Night<br />

Caps show. Warner has more than two decades of experience in the<br />

<strong>Washington</strong>, D.C., market, starting with the Associated Press in 1990<br />

and eventually moving on to WTOP as a sports anchor and reporter<br />

since 1997.<br />

Warner’s voice was previously heard at <strong>Capitals</strong> games as the public<br />

address announcer in the late 1990s, including during the team’s trip<br />

to the Stanley Cup final in 1998. He also has experience as a network<br />

sports anchor for CBS, NBC, CNN and Associated Press, anchored<br />

sports for three years at WTEM and produced a television show on<br />

Home Team Sports (now Comcast SportsNet).<br />

A journalism major at the University of Charleston and University of<br />

Delaware, Warner was the sports director of WNS-TV and WILM News<br />

Radio in Wilmington, Delaware. He also spent time as a sports producer<br />

at WXIA-TV in Atlanta.<br />

KEN SABOURIN<br />

Radio Analyst<br />

Ken Sabourin returns to the <strong>Capitals</strong>’ broadcast<br />

team for his seventh year providing insightful<br />

analysis for radio coverage. Sabourin joined<br />

the team in 2002-03 for home games, working<br />

alongside play-by-play <strong>com</strong>mentator Steve Kolbe.<br />

A player for five years in the <strong>NHL</strong> and a defenseman for <strong>Washington</strong><br />

during the 1990-91 and ’91-92 campaigns, Sabourin retired from<br />

professional hockey following the 1998-99 season. In 74 games with<br />

<strong>Washington</strong> and Calgary, the native of Scarborough, Ontario, recorded<br />

two goals and eight assists, including five points in 28 games for the<br />

<strong>Capitals</strong> in 1990-91. In 47 games over his two seasons with <strong>Washington</strong>,<br />

Sabourin recorded one goal and four assists while registering 129<br />

penalty minutes. While playing for Calgary in 1988-89, Sabourin<br />

appeared in one playoff game en route to the Flames’ Stanley Cup title.<br />

Drafted by Calgary in the second round (33rd overall) of the 1984 Entry<br />

Draft, Sabourin continued his hockey involvement following his playing<br />

career by serving as an analyst for the Sunshine Network’s coverage<br />

of the now-defunct Orlando Solar Bears of the International Hockey<br />

League. He remains active in area youth hockey, serving as a lead<br />

instructor at the <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>Capitals</strong> Youth Hockey Camps.<br />
