Figure 5 shows an example of a planned sale—the “North Fork” parcel to<br />

be sold competitively in April 2008 by the field office in Las Cruces, New<br />

Mexico. This 167-acre parcel is on the eastern edge of Las Cruces across<br />

the street from residential subdivisions. BLM also plans to sell a similar<br />

adjacent 180-acre parcel at the same time. The field office reported that<br />

the purpose of these sales is to dispose of l<strong>and</strong> that will serve important<br />

public objectives, including but not limited to, expansion of communities<br />

<strong>and</strong> economic development, which cannot be achieved prudently or<br />

feasibly on l<strong>and</strong> other than public l<strong>and</strong>.<br />
