Martha Gellhorn was one of her generation’s greatest
journalists, a prizewinning war correspondent,
a world-class traveler, and the wife of Ernest
Hemingway for fi ve tempestuous years. Her memoir, Travels
with Myself and Another (originally published in 1978), shines
light on Gellhorn’s time covering the Sino-Japanese War
and other international confl icts, her extensive travel in
Asia, the USSR, Africa, and beyond, and her rocky marriage
to Hemingway.
Martha GellhorN was born in 1908 in St. Louis,
Missouri. One of the most acclaimed war correspondents of her era,
she died in 1998.
