Following OSHA and ANSI safety requirements
when using abrasive cup wheels may require a
little extra time and increase your short run
cost. However, it is much less costly to “do it
right” than risk the time lost and high cost of
accidents. Knowing the rules and following
those rules does not only make good business
sense, but it is the smart thing to do! Following
is a checklist of the important rules to follow:
1 SPEED: Make sure wheel is rated at or above the
grinder's rating.
2 GUARD: Use the right guard and never grind
without the guard on the grinder.
3 MOUNTING: Inspect the wheel before mounting and
run a test in an enclosed area prior to grinding.
Only use grinders with a proper back flange.
4 WEAR all required personal protective equipment
such as eye, face, hearing, and respiratory
protection; as well as gloves, aprons, arm guards,
and safety shoes.
