From 14,222 square feet to 30,021
square feet plus office space, the
Dee J. Kelly Law Library underwent
a major transformation during the
2004-05 renovation:
22,078 feet of linear shelving
13,533 additional hardcover volumes

of linear shelving during the renovation and expansion.
The Law Clinic is another component of
Texas Wesleyan that was not only created
following the law school’s relocation,
but has seen exceptional growth in a
short period of time. After opening its
doors in 1998, the clinic quickly expanded
its outreach to provide representation to
clients with a variety of legal problems.
Beginning in June 2003, the clinic received
a grant from SafeHaven of Tarrant County
(formerly Women’s Haven) through the
United States Department of Justice’s Office
of Justice Programs to benefit victims of
domestic violence. Generous funding from
the United Way Families Impact Council
allowed for the creation of the children’s
rights clinic. Originally awarded in the
spring of 2005, the initial grant allowed the
Law Clinic to expand its services to include
a section of practice devoted to children’s
rights, providing services for children who
are at risk for neglect and abuse in the
Tarrant County community, and to form
a collaborative partnership with the Lena
Pope Home, enabling families to receive
the legal and social services they need. The
grant was renewed for the third time in the
summer of 2007.
The Texas Wesleyan Law Clinic received the 2006 Outstanding Large Law Firm of the Year award at the Legal Aid of Northwest Texas
23rd annual Pro Bono Awards Luncheon. The clinic was honored for volunteering 636 hours in the 2005-06 fiscal year.
