He weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 21 inches. 2006 Scott Petty and Michael Schneider recently founded the law firm of Schneider & Petty. The success of their first year is thanks in large part to referrals from former classmates and an aggressive marketing strategy. Goals for the second year have Schneider & Petty adding an associate to its family law practice and the addition of bankruptcy to its list of practice areas. Julie Walker was elected to the 2007-09 alumni association board of directors. alumni Ami Sanchez ‘06 profile Running at Full Speed and Loving It Following completion of the bar exam, many law school graduates probably write “take a long nap” at the top of their list of things to do. But after Ami Sanchez ’06 completed that last answer on the test, she dashed to the airport and hopped a plane for Washington, D.C., where she began a new job that was the start of a busy and exciting career. Sanchez is currently the assistant director for lawyer chapters at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS) in Washington, D.C. The organization is a network of lawyers, law students, scholars, judges, policymakers, and other individuals who work to ensure that the fundamental principles of human dignity, individual rights, genuine equality, and access to justice are given a central place in American law. “It has been a whirlwind, and it’s so exciting,” Sanchez said. “I get to interact with some of the most intelligent legal minds in the country. I love organizing lawyers for a cause, and ACS has chapters all over the country.” Prior to her position at ACS, Sanchez worked for EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest grassroots political network, which is dedicated to building a progressive America by electing pro-choice democratic women to federal, state, and local offices. Sanchez worked for the group through a program called Campaign Corps, which trains young democratic operatives on all aspects of running a political campaign, then places participants on high profile races across the country. During the 2006 campaign cycle, Sanchez worked for the New York State Democratic Senate Caucus working to elect pro-choice democratic women to state office. Following the general election, Sanchez returned to Texas to work on Ciro Rodriguez’s TX-23rd Congressional special. “It was a phenomenal experience,” Sanchez said. “The knowledge and skills I gained working to organize lawyers on behalf of the campaign were invaluable.” While the nation’s capital is many miles from her hometown of San Antonio, Sanchez said she has been reminded how small the world can be when she occasionally runs into former law school Dean Fred Slabach and other Wesleyan connections in the area. However, there is one home comfort she said she cannot find in Washington. “Breakfast tacos. They are a concept yet to be grasped here in the East. If all else fails, I could open a breakfast taco stand out on the corner and make a killing, because they have yet to be realized here.” 38 Roberta Walker has become an associate with the Law Offices of Roderick C.
