True to the definition in this report, Froukje Kruijssen is a
Young Professional. Born in 1977 she enrolled at Wageningen
University in 1995, obtaining her Masters Degree in Agricultural
Development Economics in 2003. She then worked, as Junior
Researcher in the Department of Development Economics
of Wageningen University, as Junior Program Officer with the
Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA),
as Research Manager with FairFood – a Dutch NGO working
on fair product chains – and as Associate Scientist – under the
Netherlands Associate Expert Program – in the regional office
for Asia, the Pacific and Oceania of Bioversity International
in Malaysia. Here, she was involved in research on the use of
agro-biodiversity for livelihood improvement in Thailand, Indonesia
and India (2005-2008).
Froukje conducted a number of consultancies including, in
2008, the external review of the Young Professionals’ Platform for
Agricultural Research for Development (YPARD).
She is presently in the final stages of completing her PhD thesis
– on ‘Integrating income improvement and on-farm biodiversity
management of tropical fruits’ – with the Centre for International
Development Issues of the Radboud University in Nijmegen,
the Netherlands.
