New! In line with Government’s and local priorities on the childhood obesity agenda, we are delighted to introduce the NDNA e-learning package on Nutrition. The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge and understanding of healthy, balanced and nutritious foods and drinks. This will support your practice and enable you to evaluate the effectiveness of your healthy eating policy. The knowledge gained will ensure you can reflect on and review your practice to further promote the health and well-being of children throughout your setting or child minding service. The e-learning course covers why healthy eating is important, key legislation, healthy eating including all the different food groups, nutrients, oral health and drinks, diets and allergies, menu planning and food hygiene and resources and further information. Please see page 16 for details and how to access and login The Revised EYFS (Sept 2012) is now being embedded in practices, but here are some key reminders: 3.46 “In group provision, all staff involved in preparing and handling food must receive training in food hygiene.” CIEH Food Safety Level 1 – suitable for all practitioners (servicing toast/breakfast, fruit and snacks) Available at venues across Staffordshire - see page 19 CIEH Food Safety Level 2 – suitable for cook/chef (preparing main meals etc) – either Initial or Refresher courses available Available at venues across Staffordshire – see page 20 3.18 “Providers must ensure that all staff receive induction training to help them understand their roles and responsibilities. Induction training must include information about emergency evacuation procedures, safeguarding, child protection, the provider’s equality policy, and health and safety issues.” 3
