Webinars have proved so popular, we are increasing our team of webinar hosts to meet<br />
capacity demands – I’m sure you’ll all welcome Julie and Wendy to the team.<br />

webinars, with 530 participants, 99% of whom rank the quality consistently at<br />

In line with Government’s and local priorities on the childhood obesity agenda, we are<br />
delighted to introduce the NDNA e-learning package on Nutrition.<br />
The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge and understanding of healthy,<br />
balanced and nutritious foods and drinks. This will support your practice and enable you<br />
to evaluate the effectiveness of your healthy eating policy. The knowledge gained will<br />
ensure you can reflect on and review your practice to further promote the health and<br />
well-being of children throughout your setting or child minding service.<br />
The e-learning course covers why healthy eating is important, key legislation, healthy<br />
eating including all the different food groups, nutrients, oral health and drinks, diets and<br />
allergies, menu planning and food hygiene and resources and further information.<br />

The Revised EYFS (Sept 2012) is now being embedded in practices, but here are<br />
some key reminders:<br />

Work-Based <strong>Learning</strong> Unit – QCF accredited qualifications<br />
Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF)<br />
Our Work Based <strong>Learning</strong> Team is able to offer the QCF Level 2 Certificate and Level<br />
3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce (the revised NVQ<br />
qualifications).<br />
This work based qualification is for anybody who works with children and young people<br />
aged 0 – 19 years in a wide range of settings including:<br />
Pre –school/nursery<br />
Schools<br />
Out of school clubs<br />
Childminders<br />
Children’s centres<br />
It is a credit based qualification, enabling learners to build up credits at their own pace<br />
and to combine units to suit their specific job role. Learners will build a portfolio of<br />
evidence that demonstrates their knowledge and practical skills. The qualification is<br />
available at level 2 and level 3 and is open to anybody aged 16 years and over. It is<br />
suitable for voluntary workers (level 2 only) full and part time workers and trainees on a<br />
full apprenticeship programme, or as a “stand-alone” qualification at Level 3.<br />
<strong>Training</strong> will take place ‘on the job’ in the learners workplace, and ‘off the job’ at a<br />
suitable training venue with cluster groups. The length of training depends on the<br />
individuals learner’s previous knowledge, experience and qualifications though it is<br />
anticipated that for level 2 learners training will take between 12 – 15 months; and for<br />
level 3 learners 18 – 24 months.<br />

Booking/Cancellation Procedures<br />
Booking Procedure<br />
Target Audience<br />
All training is available to childcare practitioners and managers in ofsted registered<br />
provision, delivering EYFS, including Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) settings<br />
and Children’s Centres.<br />
Checking Availability<br />
Contact the training provider directly.<br />
Reserve a place, giving your Name, Setting, Type of Setting, Setting Address and<br />
Contact Telephone Number.<br />
Please Note: this is a provisional booking only, and the place will be held for a maximum<br />
of 7 days.<br />
If the course is fully booked, or you are not listed on the target audience, please ask to be<br />
placed on the waiting list with the training provider.<br />
Confirming Your Booking<br />
Complete a T1 Booking Form for each person who has provisionally reserved a place on<br />
the course. The form can also be downloaded from the <strong>Early</strong> <strong>Years</strong> <strong>Training</strong> website<br />
www.staffordshire.gov.uk/eyctraining.<br />
Return the completed T1 Booking Form/s directly to the training provider, ensuring return<br />
within 7 days of the date of the provisional booking. A place on the course cannot be<br />
guaranteed if the booking form is returned later than the specified time limit.<br />
Your Joining Instructions<br />
The training provider will send written confirmation of your booking on receipt of the T1<br />
form.<br />
The training provider will send a reminder of your booking approximately<br />
1-2 weeks prior to the course commencement date. Details of how to find the<br />
venue will be included.<br />
In the event of any unforeseen changes to the booking arrangements,<br />
the training provider will notify you either verbally or in writing.<br />
It is important that you provide the training provider with a mobile contact number if<br />
possible so that the trainer can contact you at short notice in the event of a problem<br />
with the course.<br />

Cancellation/Non-Attendance Policy<br />
The Programme of courses offered by the <strong>Early</strong> <strong>Years</strong> and Childcare Service are funded by the<br />
Sure Start <strong>Early</strong> <strong>Years</strong> and Childcare Grant. As a Local Authority it is our responsibility to<br />
ensure that the type of training and number of training courses we offer, meet the needs of<br />
<strong>Staffordshire</strong>’s childcare workforce and that wherever possible each training session runs at full<br />
capacity. In order to remove any barriers to training opportunities, we have made every effort to<br />
arrange training sessions on a variety of days (including weekends), and at times of the day or<br />
evening that are most convenient to each target group.<br />
Why has the cancellation/non-attendance fee been implemented?<br />
The cancellation/nonattendance fee has been implemented because:<br />
The training offered is not free – it has been paid for on your behalf through the <strong>Early</strong><br />
Intervention Grant<br />
If a course is not run at full capacity it is not cost-effective. The trainers’ fee and venue<br />
costs are fixed and must still be paid.<br />
Courses and activities are often based on the sharing of good practice and this may be<br />
carried out in small group work. This cannot take place effectively with very low<br />
numbers.<br />
By cancelling a booking at short notice, you are denying those on a waiting list the<br />
opportunity to attend.<br />
What is the cancellation/non-attendance policy?<br />
When you complete and return a T1 Booking Form, you are confirming your ability to attend the<br />
training. Cancellation of a booking will incur no charge if made 3 weeks prior to the date of<br />
training. However cancellation of a booking within 3 weeks of the date of training, or nonattendance<br />
on the date of training will result in the Setting or childminder being charged a<br />
cancellation fee.<br />
You may cancel up to 3 weeks prior to the date of training without incurring any charge.<br />
If you cancel within 3 weeks of the date of training your setting will incur a charge, unless<br />
you nominate another staff member to attend in your place and ensure all relevant<br />
details are given to the training provider in advance. If time permits send a new booking<br />
form to confirm the new arrangements. Childminders will be charged for cancellation<br />
individually.<br />
If you fail to attend on the date of training without cancellation your setting will incur a<br />
charge. Childminders will be charged for non-attendance individually.<br />
How much is the cancellation/non-attendance fee?<br />

All settings excluding childminders:<br />
£75.00 per person per cancelled booking/non-attendance.<br />

What if you need to cancel a confirmed booking?<br />
Contact the training provider giving as much notice as possible.<br />
What if the training provider changes the booking arrangements or cancels a<br />
course?<br />
In some instances it may be necessary for us to instruct the training provider to cancel or rearrange<br />
a training event. If you are unable to attend on an alternative date, or if the course is<br />
cancelled, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.<br />

The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge and understanding of healthy,<br />
balanced and nutritious foods and drinks. This will support your practice and enable you<br />
to evaluate the effectiveness of your healthy eating policy. The knowledge gained will<br />
ensure you can reflect on and review your practice to further promote the health and<br />
well-being of children throughout your setting or child minding service.<br />
The course cross-references the legal requirements, best practice food and drink<br />
guidelines and nation specific resources and information. This gives you the<br />
reassurance that you are meeting all of the legal duties and implementing the very best<br />
practice based on research.<br />
The e-learning course covers why healthy eating is important, key legislation, healthy<br />
eating including all the different food groups, nutrients, oral health and drinks, diets and<br />
allergies, menu planning and food hygiene and resources and further information.<br />
By the end of this course learners will:<br />
Understand the value of healthy eating<br />
Appreciate their role in having a positive influence on the nutrition of young children<br />
Understand the legislation around food and nutrition (appropriate for each nation)<br />
Be able to develop the knowledge and attitudes of children towards food and<br />
healthy eating<br />
Understand how to engage parents and carers and to extend the principles of good<br />
nutrition into the home environment<br />
Be able to develop a food and nutrition policy<br />
Be aware of a range of activities to promote healthy eating within an early years<br />
setting.<br />
Who should complete this course?<br />
This course is aimed at all practitioners including cooks and chefs, as everyone has a<br />
responsibility to support the health and well-being of the children they care for. This<br />
course provides you with three guided learning hours which contributes towards your<br />
Continuous Professional Development.<br />
