PENNSBURY SUMMER SCHOOL ABROAD
An Invitation to All Pennsbury Students:
The Foreign Language Department invites all Pennsbury students to join us in Quebec, Canada;
Mexico, or Germany for our summer school abroad program starting in June 2010. If you would like
to learn or brush up on French, Spanish, or German, this opportunity is an excellent way to do it by
immersing yourself in a foreign culture for a couple of weeks. The program includes travel, daily
excursions, home-stays, and friendship, tons of fun, and memorable experiences, which will last a
lifetime. Bring a friend, or meet new friends! Please ask any foreign language teacher today for more
information on this wonderful opportunity.
PHS MUSIC DEPARTMENT
On Saturday March 6 th , the PHS Concert Choir and The Pennsbury Community Chorus will perform
at NYC's CARNEGIE HALL at 8:00 PM with full orchestra. The PHS Concert Choir will sing "Sacred
Songs" by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins - - Dr. Jenkins will conduct the choir with full orchestra.
The combined PHS Concert Choir and Pennsbury Community Chorus will sing "DEWI SANT" by
Arwel Hughes (1909-1988) conducted by Dr. Jonathan Griffith with full orchestra as part of WALES
WEEK in NYC (Sponsored by the British/Welsh Consulate). The performance marks the Centenary of
the birth of Arwel Hughes - and the NYC debut of this work. For more information log on to
DCINY.org. Tickets are available through the Carnegie Hall box office ($20 - $100).
On Tuesday March 16th at 8:00 PM the Pennsbury HS Choral Department, along with several other
guest choirs/singers will perform the "REQUIEM" of Gabriel Faure in a special benefit concert. All
monies will be sent to Haiti to help earthquake survivors. All seats are $20 and tickets are available at
the door or from the PHS Choral Department. Over 250 plus singers will perform along with guest
instrumentalists who are all donating their time and service to this concert. Grafton Piano and Organ
Company will donate the Allen Digital organ for the concert. Mrs. Robin Park Campbell, a 1988 PHS
graduate and resident of Fairless Hills, was in Haiti on a humanitarian aid trip when the earthquake
struck, and will speak at the beginning of the concert. Joining forces with the PHS Choirs will be
singers from the Pennsbury Community Chorus, and singers from various church and community
choruses in both Bucks County, PA and Mercer County, NJ. Members of the PHS National Junior
Honor Society and Student Council are also helping with concert preparations. The performance is in
the East campus auditorium.
On Saturday March 27th at 2:30 PM the 2nd Annual Pennsbury Elementary Choral Festival will
feature a choir of 100 plus young voices from across the entire Pennsbury School District. Singers will
come together to work with guest conductor Mrs. Michelle Alford, who is director of the Hopewell
Valley Children's Chorus in NJ. The concert is in the PHS-West Choral/Ensemble room. Admission is
free and open to the public.
