NAVIANCE FAMILY CONNECTION
Naviance and Parent Accounts
Parent email addresses, submitted through our ConnectEd information request, have been imported into our
Naviance system, to help improve communication with Pennsbury High School parents. This transfer of data
occurred during the week of October 11, 2010. If you do not wish to have your email address used in the
Naviance system, please notify the guidance office at Pennsbury High School East in writing. Parents who
provide an email address through Connect Ed receive Naviance Account Confirmation emails 3-4 weeks later.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the School Counseling Office at 215-949-6700.
What is Naviance?
Naviance is a powerful, comprehensive online program that is used by the PHS parents, students and School
Counselors to help students plan for college and careers. The Guidance Department strongly advises you to
become familiar with the many resources available through Naviance. There are a lot of great features that can
help guide students through their career and/or college research. It is a great tool for everything from
personality and career exploration to college searches. Additionally, you can begin to organize for your college
applications. A good amount of what we do in the Guidance Office in noted on the site as well, so you will be
able to track transcripts and manage your list of potential colleges.
• Go to the Naviance Family Connection website:
http://connection.naviance.com/pennsbury
PHS CITIZENSHIP AWARD
Important Phone Numbers
We would like to recognize some of our students that are making positive contributions to PHS. Each month,
we will focus on specific characteristics and qualities. We asked each of our teachers to nominate one student
every month who demonstrates those characteristics and qualities:
We would like to thank everyone that submitted a citizenship award nomination for the month of February.
12 TH grader Andrew Korbar was our first grand prize winner and he was nominated by Chris Rowlands in the
math department. Andrew received a $25.00 gift card for his trustworthiness.
For the month of March, the student nominations will focus on respect. Last month we had 57 nominees, so
let's try to top that in March. Please contact me with any questions about the citizenship award. Have a good
NEWS OF THE MONTH FROM YOUR HIGH
SCHOOL LIBRARY
News of the Month – From your High School Libraries!
DID YOU KNOW???
The high school libraries have been purchasing research books in print and e-books. An e-book is a book but
in an electronic format. We have already begun to see many benefits to adding e-books into our collection
including:
• E-books provide 24/7 school and home access to the collection.
• E-books allow multiple users to read the same book at the same time.
• E-books allow students to easily search for keywords instead of turning pages.
• E-books can be interactive and contain audio capabilities.
• E-books are also available in hard print format, so we do carry both.
• E-books allow users to change font sizes for those who have difficulty reading small print.
Just so you know, to access these e-books from home, students will need to have a password. Please see
either the East or West librarian for this information.
Access to these e-books can be found on the library website at the following link:
http://www.pennsbury.k12.pa.us/pennsbury/PHS/Quick%20Links/Library/
This month’s Recommended Book is:
I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
After capturing a bank robber, nineteen-year-old cab driver Ed Kennedy begins receiving mysterious
messages that direct him to addresses where people need help, and he begins getting over his lifelong feeling
of worthlessness.
Don’t forget, the best way to get a student to read is for you to read too!
SENIOR PROM WORKERS
All of you who helped last year did a fabulous job. You are welcome to come back this year even though
your seniors are gone. It is fun, it is challenging and you will love it.
When: Monday through Friday from 7 - 9 pm, in the main hallway and 6 – 9 pm in the upstairs
hallway at the East building. Come one night or all for one hour or three.
SOCIAL STUDIES TRIP:
Your child can experience the history, art and culture of Scotland and England this summer. The Social
Studies Dept. is sponsoring a Humanities Trip to Europe in July, 2010. We will be visiting London, York,
Edinburgh, and the Lake District. Interested students should see Mrs. Minor in B122 at West for more
information.
