Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of the ELM requirement.<br />
Textbook: Introduction to the Practice of <strong>Statistics</strong> (Sixth Edition), by Moore and Mc-<br />
Cabe. You can buy the hard copy for $<strong>124</strong> (includes Excel Manual and access to StatsPortal),<br />
or you can get an e-book with purchase of access to StatsPortal for $60.<br />
Syllabus: We will cover Chapters 1-8.<br />
Calculator: You must have a calculator with bivariate statistical functions. I recommend<br />
a TI-83 Plus or higher.<br />

Attendance: Attendance will not be taken, but you are responsible for all announcements<br />
made in class and for all material covered in class. Please avoid late arrivals and early departures.<br />
Examinations: There will be one midterm exam and a final exam.<br />
Midterm exam: Thursday, March 19.<br />
Final exam: Tuesday, May 19, 13:30-16:00.<br />
There will be no make-up exams for any of the exams. Missing an exam results in a 0<br />
grade for that exam. The only exception is verified serious illness or accident.<br />
Homework: The homework for this class will be done on-line using StatsPortal. To sign<br />
up for this, follow the steps below:<br />
1. Go to http://courses.bfwpub.com/ips6e (Mac users need to use Firefox).<br />
2. Click on the link ”REGISTER AN ACTIVATION CODE.”<br />
3. You will be prompted to follow the on-screen instructions to find your course. You will<br />
start by selecting the school’s state/province, the school name, then your instructor, course,<br />
and/or section.<br />
4. You will enter the activation code that came with your textbook or that you purchased<br />
from us. You will also be asked to enter your email address, choose a password and you will<br />
be ready to go!<br />
5. You can also purchase access on the website by clicking on the PURCHASE link.
Excel Projects: You will be assigned three Excel projects.<br />
Course Grade: The grade will be based on the homework (25%), the Excel projects (15%),<br />
the Midterm (25%) and the Final (35%).<br />
The grade distribution is as follows: A (90%-<strong>10</strong>0%), B (80%-89%), C (70%-79%), D<br />
(60%-69%), F (0%-59%).<br />
