2001-02 Season in Review/Results
Sept. 21—The Huskies opened the dual
meet season by dropping a 7-2 decision to
Pittsburgh. Erin Bartsch and Katie Kochera
were the lone winners for the Huskies.
Sept. 29-Oct. 1—Bloomsburg hosted the
ITA East Regional championships and saw
Erin Bartsch earn a trip to the ITA
championships by winning the “A” singles
title with a win over Anna Burakova of
Dowling College in set straights, 7-6 (5),
6-1.
Oct. 14—The Huskies dropped their
second match in a row to start the year
with a tough 5-4 loss to Slippery Rock.
Bloomsburg came back later in the day to
win its first match of the year, 8-1, over
West Chester.
Feb. 8—Despite taking two of the three
doubles matches to earn one team point,
the Huskies dropped five of six singles
matches in a 5-2 loss to Colgate. It was the
first match of the 2002 calendar year for
Bloomsburg.
Mar. 11-14—On the team’s annual
southern spring trip, the Huskies won
three of the four matches it played. After
losing to Division I Indiana St., the
Huskies routed Skidmore, 8-1, and
Shippensburg and Edinboro by scores of
9-0. Against the Lady Raiders the Huskies
lost just nine games during the singles
portion of play.

2001-02 RESULTS (11-8)
Apr. 5-6—The Huskies hosted the
Bloomsburg Duals and beat Concordia and
Franklin Pierce by 9-0 scores. Bloomsburg
lost just seven games to Franklin Pierce
while going to 6-5 on the year.
Apr. 10—PSAC rival Kutztown proved no
match for the Huskies in an 9-0 victory.
Bloomsburg won each singles match in
straight sets.
Apr. 19-21—At the PSAC championships
the Huskies cruised to the finals with wins
over Shippensburg and Slippery Rock by
indentical, 5-0 scores. In the finals the
Huskies faced longtime rival Millersville
and dropped a 5-4 decision to the
Marauders. Erin Bartsch was a two-time
winner for the Huskies. In singles play she
beat former Husky Heather Miller in
straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
May 3-4—The Huskies hosted the NCAA
East Regional championships and swept
their way to victory. Bloomsburg beat
Queens College of NY 5-0 in the
semifinals and then defeated top-seed
Slippery Rock, 5-0, to earn a trip to the
national championship round. In the title
match Beth Fulton won 6-0, 6-0, at
number three singles.
May 9—The Huskies’ season comes to an
end at the NCAA championships in Kansas
City, MO. Bloomsburg falls to Barry, 5-0.
