Volume 32 Number 5 July 2012
Meet Jill Schumacher
National Award winning machine quilter, Jill began making her first quilts at the
age of 12. Having been an art major, Jill has dabbled in many different art forms.
It was not until many years later that Jill was introduced to the art of machine
quilting in 1997. She fell in love with this method of quilting and has not stopped
since first experiencing the thrill of completing each heirloom quilt. Her first
machine quilted quilt won the Best of Show at the Siskiyou County Fair in 1998
and went on to take Second Place in the State level competition. This recognition
started Jill’s journey into competitions and later, the inception of her quilting
business, Quiltmaker to the Queen. Jill has taken classes across the country from
Master Quilters and is working toward her own certification as a Master Machine
Quilter.
Jill loves empowering students and shows them the easy way to gain confidence and build their skills so that
they too, will enjoy creating their own heirlooms and masterpieces.
Jill’s Motto: Learning to machine quilt is as easy as learning to ride a bicycle.
July, 2012 President’s Message
June’s Show and Tell was spectacular. It’s really
enjoyable seeing all the quilts that our very talented
members produce. In addition to all the other great
quilts, it was fun seeing the results from Bev’s
Retreat.
Hopefully you enjoyed Laurel Anderson’s
presentation as much as I did. It’s inspirational
seeing the work of our speakers and Laurel had
lots to share. I laughed when she said that she
didn’t bring her “boring” quilts. After seeing her
work, I expect those are spectacular too.
Our July speaker, Jill Schumacher, “Creating Your
Heirlooms of Tomorrow”, is an expert machine
quilter. Although my skills are in computerized
quilting, I’ve tried to learn hand guided longarming,
but haven’t progressed much past a decent
meander. I admire those who have the talent to
draw beautiful quilting designs using their sewing
machines and hope to gain tips from Jill on how to
improve.
Hope to see all of you at our next meeting on July
16, 2012.
JULY WORKSHOP
The July workshop is going to be about machine quilting.
This is a great opportunity to get a "hands on" lesson
from one of the best. It is VERY important that the
HOMEWORK for this class be finished. The finished
homework will be your class project for the machine
quilting lessons that will be taught. Prior preparation is
essential for this workshop to be a successful
experience for anyone that attends. So if you get started
now, you will have plenty of time to get it all done.
Although we will take registration right up until the
workshop starts, it is strongly recommended that you
register as soon as possible, then get the homework
done.
The supply list and directions for all the homework is
also available on the Guild website: www.fsqg.org
You can call me with any questions, or to reserve a
space at the workshop
