NEWSLETTER
SERVING THE GREATER WHITTIER-LA HABRA AREA
www.fsqg.org
Volume 32 Number 7 September 2012
Guest Speaker Marguerette Tate
I will share my lifetime love of sewing and some of my discoveries in my lecture. I'm still exploring and creating
every day. My trunk show is very extensive and includes all of my techniques. I also allow photographs in both
lecture and workshop.
As a former school teacher I bring 35 years of instructional experience to my workshop and lectures.I enjoy
sharing my knowledge and ideas with others, especially helping fellow quilters use their ideas and skills to
create quilts that are just a "little outside of the box". I like sharing my ideas and techniques to inspire quilters
to become confident designers and quilt makers. I have designed my workshops so all quilters can be
successful.
I prepare my background just as an artist prepares a canvas before beginning to apply paint. I use my sewing
machine and/or a needle and thread as my paint brush. Sometimes I use beads, yarn, vintage jewelry, tulle,
buttons, and foil candy wrappers for embellishment. I use pictures (often on a calendar), nature, familiar quilt
designs, photographs, and my imagination to create quilts with dimension. Some consider me to be a fiber
artist, but I don't consider most of my quilts "Art Quilts". I think ALL quilts are a form of artistic expression.
Marguerette's Workshop
Kit's are recommended. $30. for Animals includes all the fabric required and it is
fused with Steam a Seam. This is a huge time saver. Small flower $10. The Kit also
includes the Background fabric, patterns and instructions. Optional Bead Kits ($2-$3
per pkg.) Other tools needed are; Foam Core Board (20x30 or 30x40), scissors
(both Paper and Fabric). Small Travel Iron (if you have one).
Sewing machine not necessary unless you are an over-achiever.
Call Barbara Clemens to order your Kit (otherwise you take what you get...)

September, 2012 President’s Message
Well, we tried the new meeting schedule and all went well. Hope you enjoyed having Bobbi Finley
present at the beginning of the meeting and being able to shop during the break.
The August fundraiser fabric sale by the Silver Stitchers was quite successful. We made over $300
that we will put to good use.
Bobbi Finley was a very interesting and informative speaker. I hope you enjoyed her slide show and
beautiful quilts. I look forward to seeing your samples from the workshop.
Our speaker for September is Marguerite Tate. The machine appliquéd and embellished samples
she sent for our review were stunning. Her workshop looks like it will be fun.
I look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting on September 17, 2012.
Mary Stephens, President
NEW; Scrapbooking!
Affiliate members of the guild are offered the opportunity to showcase their business in the newsletter.
I have just started a Creative Memories business so I am taking advantage of that privilege. For those of you
who may not be familiar with Creative Memories—it is organizing your photos and getting them out of those
boxes in the garage or out of your cameras or phones; it’s scrapbooking; it’s digital albums. It’s getting those
photos into your life and enjoying them!!! It’s just another fun part of life.
I’d love to help you have fun with your photos. You can contact me to talk about your needs, have a party or
come to a fun album-making workshop. Call me at 310-650-1864 or e-mail judychristo@aol.com and take a
look at my web site www.mycmsite.com/judychristopher
Creative Memories offers so many opportunities to the novice as well as the "career scrapbooker". My role is to
help you do it!
