First Aid<br />

Basic first aid supplies are kept in many service areas throughout the three NSCAD campuses.<br />

Before your first class, please ensure that you have identified the nearest source <strong>of</strong> first<br />

aid supplies to your classroom.<br />

Fire Prevention<br />

There is no smoking permitted anywhere inside the University, or within four metres <strong>of</strong> doors or<br />

windows. Smoking is not permitted on the deck. The campus is equipped with fire alarms,<br />

extinguishers <strong>and</strong> a sprinkler system. The sprinkler system pipes <strong>and</strong> heads are not to be used<br />

to suspend any materials.<br />

Before the first day <strong>of</strong> class, please also familiarize yourself with the location <strong>of</strong> fire alarms,<br />

fire extinguishers <strong>and</strong> fire exits nearest your teaching space(s). In the event <strong>of</strong> a fire alarm,<br />

please immediately use staircases to exit the buildings, <strong>and</strong> direct your students to do the same.<br />

Occupational Health <strong>and</strong> Safety<br />

All f<strong>aculty</strong>, staff <strong>and</strong> students are responsible for safe working practices <strong>and</strong> procedures so as to<br />

safeguard their own individual health <strong>and</strong> well-being as well as that <strong>of</strong> other members <strong>of</strong> the<br />

NSCAD University community. F<strong>aculty</strong> are responsible for ensuring that students in their courses<br />

are provided with the relevant health <strong>and</strong> safety information about the materials, processes <strong>and</strong><br />

tools they assign students to work with. You are requested to read the NSCAD University<br />

Occupational Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Policy, available on the University website under “Documents”,<br />

before you start teaching<br />
