THE CONGRESSMAN AND MRS. JOSEPH McDADE PROGRAM OF PUBLIC SERVICE—<br />

This scholarship, established in 1990, supports students majoring in political science who are doing<br />

internships in <strong>Scranton</strong>-area government <strong>of</strong>fices with the intention <strong>of</strong> pursuing careers in public service.<br />

THE JOSEPH M. McDADE SCHOLARSHIP—Contributions from two special tributes in 1998 to<br />

retiring U.S. Congressman McDade were used to establish this s c h o l a r s h i pto provide need-based financial<br />

aid for students from Northeastern Pennsylvania.<br />

THE ROBERT L. McDEVITT, K.S.G., S C H O L A R S H I P—This scholarship, established in 1977,<br />

provides assistance to qualified and deserving Dexter Hanley College students. <strong>The</strong> scholarship was<br />

established by Robert L. McDevitt, K.S.G., a Georgetown <strong>University</strong> classmate and long-time friend <strong>of</strong><br />

the late Rev. Dexter L. Hanley, S.J., who served as president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> from 1970 to 1975.<br />

THE MONSIGNOR ANDREW J. McGOWAN SCHOLARSHIP—<strong>The</strong> F.M. Kirby Foundation,<br />

Inc., established this scholarship to honor Msgr. McGowan, a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> trustee emeritus<br />

and honorary degree recipient. It is used to assist deserving students who reside in either Lackawanna<br />

County or Luzerne County.<br />

THE JOHN J. AND KATHLEEN McLAINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—John J. McLaine,<br />

’71, established this scholarship in 1997 to honor his parents. Preference is given to students from<br />

Lackawanna County who are enrolled in <strong>The</strong> Kania School <strong>of</strong> Management.<br />

THE JOHN P. McLEAN S C H O L A R S H I P—<strong>The</strong> scholarship was established in 1985 by former trustee<br />

Thomas E. Sheridan, ’60, and many other alumni, students, family and friends to honor Pr<strong>of</strong>essor John P.<br />

McLean, a faculty member for over 50 years. It is presented to deserving accounting students.<br />

THE CHARLES E. MERRILL S C H O L A R S H I P—In 1969, the Charles E. Merrill Trust <strong>of</strong> New<br />

York City made a gift to the <strong>University</strong> to assist students <strong>of</strong> the Catholic faith.<br />

THE ANDREW AND MARGARET CHORBA MEZICK SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship,<br />

established by James A. and Mary P. Mezick in honor <strong>of</strong> Dr. Mezick’s parents, is given each year to a qualified<br />

incoming freshman, with preference given to students with demonstrated need from the Mid-Valley area.<br />

THE ANGELO H. MONTRONE S C H O L A R S H I P—This scholarship was established by Paul M.<br />

Montrone, '62, president <strong>of</strong> the Henley Group, Inc., to honor his father. It assists a Kania School <strong>of</strong><br />

Management student who best exemplifies Mr. Montrone’s father’s lifelong dedication to self-improvement<br />

and ethical behavior in business.<br />

THE DR. LESLIE E. MORGAN SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was established through a<br />

bequest from Dr. Morgan to assist persons studying to become members <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the health-services pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />

THE I. LEO AND ANN MOSKOVITZ SCHOLARSHIP––Mr. and Mrs. Moskovitz, community<br />

leaders and friends <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>, established this scholarship for students who intend to pursue<br />

careers in business or science, with first preference given to those who live in Lackawanna County.<br />

THE JOSEPH F. MULLANEY SCHOLARSHIP ––A bequest from Dr. Mullaney, a distinguished<br />

alumnus <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> 1938, established this scholarship for physics, mathematics and science students.<br />

THE ROBERT W. MUNLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship was established by<br />

Robert W. Munley, Esq., and Judge James M. Munley to honor their father, Robert W. Munley. It supports<br />

deserving students from Lackawanna County.<br />

THE MURPHY S C H O L A R S H I P—This scholarship was established in 1957 through a bequest <strong>of</strong><br />

Miss Margaret Murphy, a retired schoolteacher and lifelong resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. Margaret and her sister,<br />

Katherine, made the award “in loving memory <strong>of</strong> our mother, father, and brothers” to assist needy and<br />

deserving students.<br />

THE DR. LOUIS AND MURIEL MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP––Dr. and Mrs. Murphy, long-time<br />

friends <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>, established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to deserving and needy students.<br />

THE JAMES NASSER FAMILY S C H O L A R S H I P—This scholarship was established in 1986 by<br />

Mr. and Mrs. James R. Nasser. Preference is given to needy students from Lackawanna County.<br />
