Joshua Chapel AME Church is a<br />

prom<strong>in</strong>ent architectural, social<br />

and religious landmark for Waxahachie’s<br />

black community. This<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g was designed <strong>in</strong> 1917 by<br />

noted black architect William<br />

Wyatt Street Shotgun House<br />

Historic District<br />

E. side of the 300 block of Wyatt St.<br />

This district conta<strong>in</strong>s a<br />

row of small, s<strong>in</strong>gle-family shotgun<br />

dwell<strong>in</strong>gs built around 1918.<br />

The houses stand on narrow lots<br />

<strong>in</strong> an area that has historically<br />

been Waxahachie’s black community.<br />
