If you have a single system supporting multiple languages, you should change the user profile to use<br />

language and cultural-appropriate values. When you change the character set identifier (CCSID)<br />

parameter in the user profile, ensure that the CCSID is set as follows:<br />

v Is set to an SBCS CCSID or to CCSID 65535 for SBCS users<br />

v Is set to a mixed CCSID or to CCSID 65535 for DBCS users<br />

v Is set to a SBCS CCSID for SBCS users on a DBCS system<br />

You can use the Create User Profile (CRTUSRPRF) and the Change User Profile (CHGUSRPRF)<br />

commands to customize a user profile.<br />

Subsystems<br />

A subsystem is a single, predefined operating environment through which the system coordinates the<br />

work flow and resource use.<br />

The system can contain several subsystems, all operating independently of each other. Subsystems<br />

manage resources. The runtime characteristics of a subsystem are defined in an object called a subsystem<br />

description.<br />

You can use subsystems to support users in a multilingual environment. You should create a separate<br />

subsystem for each set of users with differing needs.<br />

Subsystem descriptions for secondary language users<br />

You can create and use a subsystem description in a multilingual environment. For example, you can<br />

create a subsystem for secondary language users (such as QGPL/GERMAN for German language users).<br />

A subsystem description defines how, where, and how much work enters a subsystem, and which<br />

resources the subsystem uses to perform the work. An active subsystem takes on the simple name of the<br />

subsystem description.<br />

A subsystem description consists of three parts:<br />

v Subsystem attributes<br />

v Workstation entry<br />

v Routing entries<br />

Notes:<br />

1. You can work with existing work entries while the subsystem is active.<br />

2. An <strong>IBM</strong>-supplied subsystem on a DBCS system is included with a workstation entry to<br />

support DBCS display devices.<br />
