needs. She talked with people who work a lot with children, as children <strong>of</strong>ten cannot articulate<br />

their needs themselves, to discover what things children need to know at what ages.<br />

It is one thing to think <strong>of</strong> children’s information needs as the questions they ask about<br />

dinosaurs when they go to the library. It is quite another to see the full array <strong>of</strong> learning that must<br />

occur for a child to emerge successfully into adulthood. In a dysfunctional family, with parents on<br />

drugs, for example, there may be no one to tell the child to look both ways when crossing the<br />

street—something as simple as that. The children <strong>of</strong> thieves think thievery is natural, it is what<br />

people do. That comes from simply soaking up what is in their environment, especially from the<br />

emotionally meaningful people around them.<br />

Relevant Researches<br />

Related researches and studies that have been used in this research study are as follows:<br />

Wijakkhana (1990) examined the exposure, use and gratification <strong>of</strong> mass media <strong>of</strong><br />

students from universities in Bangkok. The research study showed that the students frequently<br />

read daily newspapers, but they mostly read the topics and news, presented on the first pages <strong>of</strong><br />

newspapers, as well as information that interests them. They also believed in some <strong>of</strong> the<br />

newspapers’ content. The study also found out that the students expose themselves to television to<br />

relax with their family members.<br />

Jiraphinnusorn (1996) studied information-seeking behavior through mass media and<br />

Internet. The study found out that the main reason for seeking information from the media and<br />

internet was for the audience to acquire personal knowledge. The types <strong>of</strong> information sought<br />

from the media were entertainment and news. Cinema, radio and television were the most popular<br />

media used for information seeking on entertainment. News seeking was through printed media.<br />

Internet was used for acquiring information on education/research science/technology and<br />

entertainment. The World Wide Web, electronic mail for two-way communication and<br />

downloading s<strong>of</strong>tware for work were the main purposes <strong>of</strong> using the internet.<br />
