“Palettes & Paintings”
The Woodlands High School
Art Trust’s Collection Unveiling and Fundraiser
Friday, May 6, 2011
6-8 pm
The Woodlands High School
Silent Auction of Artist’s Palettes
“Palettes and Paintings” will be the inaugural unveiling of the new art collection at TWHS. The students
will use funds raised from their Homecoming Dance to purchase art works selected by the student body
for an art collection that will be hung in the hallways of our school. The purpose of the collection is to
not only expose students to original art on a daily basis, but to also include the artworks as part of the
curriculum for some classes. The selections of art works will be made each Spring. The entire student
body will be voting on which pieces to include in the new collection. The decision for final 2-3 pieces
will be made from the top five student choices. The vision is for the collection to be student-purchased,
student-selected and always accessible. It is hoped that the collection will reflect the tastes and the times
of each passing year as pieces are added to the collection.
The Woodlands High School Art Trust has been founded to help with the maintenance and organization
of the collection. The role of the Art Trust is to assist the students in selecting artists/art works to be
considered for the collection. The Art Trust will also raise funds to pay for the installation, presentation
and conservation of the art works. To achieve this goal, the Art Trust will present Palettes and Paintings
on Friday, May 6, 2011. 100 wooden artist’s palettes have been distributed to students, teachers and
professionals in The Woodlands to be turned into pieces of art. The palettes may be painted on or
incorporated into larger pieces of art. The palettes will be on display the week of May 2-6 at The
