Field Assessment Feedback
Band score 50-54
Criteria Strengths Recommendations
A Welcoming Place Management of the site supports
a strong sense of welcome at a
variety of levels. Paths,
bridleways and glades are well
managed with a feeling of
openness that encourages a
sense of personal safety. The
entire area was virtually litter free
and there was little evidence of
misuse, vandalism, neglect or
erosion. Signage was good
without being intrusive.
Healthy, Safe
and Secure
Clean and
Well Maintained
Footpaths and other routes well
maintained.
The site scored highly in this area
overall with high standards of
woodland maintenance and visitor
access evident.
However timer yard site needs
considerably work in order to
match the high standards
achieved elsewhere on the site.
Include an emergency contact
number on signs, leaflets and other
information.
Improve / replace toilet facilities.
Action
Emergency contact information will
be added to interpretative panels
and notice boards by Spring 2007.
The leaflets will be improved to
include emergency contact details
as they are re-printed or replaced.
The original toilets are for
staff/tenant use only. A new
disabled toilet is now present within
the sawmill site for public use,
although these facilities are not
open at all times
Toilet facilities at timber yard leave
much to be desired and need
improvement if visitors’ needs are
to be properly served.
plan for timber yard area.
Action
As stated above, disabled toilet
public use
The new management plan sets
out a programme of improvements
to the sawmill site, whilst
associated master-planning and
further feasibility work will look at
these issues in further detail
Devise plans to limit impact of
parking and vehicular access to
timber yard site.
