13 Hill Cove<br />

The charm<strong>in</strong>g settlement of Hill Cove has plenty to<br />

offer visitors <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g sea and freshwater fish<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

birdwatch<strong>in</strong>g, walk<strong>in</strong>g, beachcomb<strong>in</strong>g or simply<br />

relax<strong>in</strong>g and enjoy<strong>in</strong>g the views across to Saunders<br />

Island. Keen walkers can arrange to climb Mount<br />

Adam or take a gentle stroll to visit the largest forest<br />

<strong>in</strong> the islands.<br />

14 Little Chartres<br />

Located centrally on West <strong>Falkland</strong>, the small<br />

settlement of Little Chartres is ideally situated for<br />

exploration, yet is also a dest<strong>in</strong>ation which offers a<br />

very pleasant feel<strong>in</strong>g of isolation. Along with nearby<br />

Chartres it has beautiful views of the Chartres river,<br />

one of the top fish<strong>in</strong>g dest<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>in</strong> the islands. A<br />

variety of flora and fauna can be seen on easy walks<br />

<strong>in</strong> the surround<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

15 Port Edgar<br />

The settlement of Port Edgar is ideally situated for<br />

varied walk<strong>in</strong>g opportunities along the shores or<br />

clifftops afford<strong>in</strong>g excellent views across <strong>Falkland</strong><br />

Sound. Pengu<strong>in</strong> colonies are nearby and whales<br />

are often sighted.<br />

16 Port Howard<br />

Port Howard is an attractive sheep farm<strong>in</strong>g<br />

settlement situated on the east coast. The ferry<br />

from East <strong>Falkland</strong> arrives here. Easy to explore<br />

on foot, strolls can be taken around the settlement<br />

which is home to a small museum with relics of the<br />

1982 Conflict. Hik<strong>in</strong>g opportunities are excellent<br />

with great views from the top of Mount Maria,<br />

the <strong>Falkland</strong>s third highest peak. A n<strong>in</strong>e hole, par<br />

three golf course overlook<strong>in</strong>g the settlement and<br />

harbour, is owned and occasionally ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed by<br />

a local landowner and may be played by visitors on<br />

request. Fish<strong>in</strong>g enthusiasts will f<strong>in</strong>d Port Howard<br />

an excellent dest<strong>in</strong>ation to use as a base for sea<br />

trout fish<strong>in</strong>g on the Warrah and Chartres rivers.<br />
