The following areas should be covered in a comprehensive policy. ■ Rationale – reasons for the policy ■ Aims ■ Operation of the canteen ■ Foods sold ■ Promotion ■ Procedures – ordering, purchasing equipment, stocktaking, banking ■ Profit ■ Financial recordkeeping ■ Hygiene ■ Staffing Use the Canteen Policy template and support document on the CD-ROM as a guide when developing the school canteen policy. Refer to the CD-ROM for this Template CHECK YOUR PROGRESS A canteen committee is functioning and working towards implementing the Fresh Tastes Strategy. A canteen policy has been developed to incorporate the Fresh Tastes strategy changes, or An existing canteen policy has been reviewed to incorporate the Fresh Tastes Strategy changes. The committee has collected and assessed all relevant resources to assist them in the implementation process and has connected with support organisations. The committee is communicating about the Fresh Tastes Strategy with the school community on a regular basis.
