TECHNICAL TOURS<br />

<strong>17th</strong> INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM <strong>GiESCO</strong> <strong>2011</strong><br />

Group of <strong>International</strong> Experts of Vitivinicultural Systems for CoOperation<br />

Asti – Alba, Italy<br />

August 29 th – September 2 nd , <strong>2011</strong><br />

Technical tours are scheduled for Tuesday August 30 th , from 2.30 to 6.30 pm<br />

Bus departure and arrival point will be the Fabrizio de André Area parking.<br />

Delegate groups will visit primary estates in four prestigious Piedmont area:<br />

LANGHE (30 km) visit to Barbaresco and Neive (CN), some producers of Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto and<br />

Arneis<br />

MONFERRATO (13 km) visit to Castello del Poggio at Portacomaro (AT), producer of Mostato d’Asti, Barbera d’Asti,<br />

Dolcetto and Brachetto<br />

GHEMME (110 km) visit to Antichi Vigneti Cantalupo at Ghemme (NO), producer of Ghemme DOCG from<br />

Nebbiolo (Spanna) and other red and white wines from local varieties<br />

CANAVESE (110 km) area of production of still, dessert and sparkling wine from the variety Erbaluce. Winery to<br />

be defined.<br />

Accompanying people are welcome to joint their relatives for the technical tours.<br />

Participants who have not yet expressed their destination preference in the registration form are asked to communicate<br />

it at the reception desk on August 29 th . Places are limited.<br />

TOURS FOR ACCOMPANYING PEOPLE<br />

Monday Aug 29 th - MONFERRATO<br />

The group will be accompanied by an English speaking guide through some of the most relevant Romanesque examples<br />

of the Monferrato region: Pieve di San Secondo in Cortazzone, Abbazia di Vezzolano, Cocconato (with shopping stop at<br />

Combipel factory), Pieve di San Lorenzo at Montiglio Monferrato.<br />

The bus tour leaves from Fabrizio de André Area at 9.30 am and ends at 6 pm (drop off at the respective hotel on<br />

request). Lunch, tips and entry fees not included.<br />

Tuesday Aug 30 th – HISTORICAL CENTER OF ASTI<br />

Walking tour of historical and artistic places of the city of Asti (Collegiata San Secondo, Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo<br />

Podestà, torre Troyana e Comentina, Cattedrale), accompanied by an English speaking professional guide. The group will<br />

leave Fabrizio de André Area at 9.30 am and will be back at the conference venue at 1 pm, on time to participate the<br />

delegate lunch buffet. Accompanying people are welcome to joint technical tours in the afternoon.<br />

Wednesday Aug 31 st – TORINO and VENARIA REALE<br />

Visit to the historical center of the first Italia capitol (Piazza Castello, Palazzo Reale, San Lorenzo, San Giovanni, Palazzo<br />

Carignano, Piazza San Carlo) and to the royal residence Venaria (reggia, gardens, old town). The bus with the English<br />

speaking guide will leave Fabrizio de André Area at 8.30 am to be back at the hotels around 6 pm. Lunch, tips and entry<br />

fees not included.<br />

Thursday Sep 1 st - ALBA<br />

While the symposium goes on at Fondazione Ferrero, the accompanying people can visit the city of Alba during the<br />

morning and move by bus to some characteristic towns of the surroundings (Barolo, La Morra, Grinzane Cavour) in the<br />

afternoon. The group will reach Alba in the early morning by bus together with the delegates, then will leave Fondazione<br />

Ferrero at 9.30 am to be back at the conference venue at 5.30 pm, on time to joint the delegates for the visit and dinner<br />

at Fontanafredda. Lunch, tips and entry fees not included.
