A. Jesus the destroyer of the devils work
Key Scriptures: 1 John 3:8, Matt 16:18-19
Jesus began His ministry by identifying Himself with sinful people by receiving the baptism of
repentance. In this, He was beginning His role of being the Lamb of God that takes-away the worlds
sin. As the sin bearer He next went into the desert to face the sin maker. In the desert the devil tried
on Jesus the same temptation he’d tried on Adam and Eve, “Turn away from God, follow me and I
will make you great”. Where Adam failed, Jesus succeeded. If He has failed, He could never have
been the world’s sin bearer. He would have had to bear His own sin.
Satan offered Jesus his most precious possession – all the kingdoms of the world. Jesus did not fall to
that temptation. How did Jesus resist Satan? By the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was the
source of all Jesus’ power during His earthly ministry. Although He was fully God, He refused to use
His Godlyness to do His work. He relied upon the Father who empowered Him through the Holy
Spirit. Matt 12:28, Luke 4:1, 14, 5:17. We have access to the same Holy Spirit. John 16:13-14. Jesus
said He gave us power over evil spirits. Gen 3:15, Luke 10:19, John 14:15-17. Jesus drank from the
well of the Holy Spirit. We must drink form the same well. John 7:38-39. Pray for the power of the
Holy Spirit to come upon us.
B. We canonly operate out of Holiness. James 4:7-8
