Dear Editor Tool Box Project The Tool Box project in Maldon desperately needs wood so that they can continue to make small boxes for the charity Tools With A Mission. These boxes are filled with sets of sockets which are sent out to Africa as part of the tool kits donated to help train young men and women so that they can learn a trade and earn enough money to feed and educate their families. Rev Jo Stark, co-ordinator of the project said, “We want to make 40 boxes a month but we’ve run out of wood. We need scrap 6mm ply, 10mm plank and 15mm plank which we can cut down into 35cm lengths. I’m hoping that carpenters or timber yards will be willing to let us have their scrap.” If you have any suitable scrap wood that the project could use, please call Jo on 01245 358 951 or drop in to the Tool Box which is open every Thursday morning from 10am till 12 noon at Maldon Baptist Church, Butt Lane CM9 5HD. Thank you. Dear Editor Rock Choir I wanted to get in touch to tell you that Rock Choir started officially in Braintree, Witham and Colchester this week. We had over 80 people in the room at Colchester all making a great sound and all determined to start the year 2012 on a high! Rock Choir is a great opportunity for people in the local community to join together to have a sing and also get fantastic opportunities for great performances! It doesn’t matter whether your voice has been confined to the car for years or whether you are a Choir regular all Your Letters... have your say! We’re keen to hear your views, so please get in touch with your thoughts, frustrations, observations and stories. Only you can help make a difference, so pick up a pen or send us an email. I would love to get something published in Estuary Life to tell the people of Maldon, Tiptree and Mersea about this great Choir and the phenomenon of Rock Choir that is in Braintree, Witham and Colchester and how they can start the new year by doing something new that will make them feel so good about themselves! Kind regards Daniel Ribbits Rock Choir Leader Dear Editor, Outside Gyms I have just read article about outside gyms by Tina Vale. I use the outside gym regularly at Tolleshunt D’Arcy. I have phoned the Council twice since November regards the plastic seats on some of the equipment, that are breaking up. I was using the gym yesterday Friday 13th Jan and the seats have not been seen to. The first time I phoned the council I was told it was going to be looked into, then I was told the same the second time I phoned in December. Bill Heybridge Thanks Bill, We referred your letter to Tina Vale and her response follows - Ed Dear Estuary Life The responsibility of the Outside Gym at Tolleshunt D’Arcy was signed over to Tolleshunt D’Arcy Parish Council in August 2011 and therefore they have been overseeing this equipment. There is a five year warranty on the equipment provided by Lappset Playworld the company that installed the equipment which expires in 2015. Lappset Playworld will be undertaking their inspection this month and then again in April. All the broken seats will be replaced this month by Lappset Playworld. The broken seats have now been replaced and the new seats are better, as they are flat whereas the original seats had a curved ridge at the back. Dear Editor The Rotary Club of Maldon - Annual Mammoth Book Sale From Alan Higgs For the 6th year running, The Rotary Club of Maldon in conjunction with the local branch of the NSPCC is holding their annual Mammoth Book Sale. The NSPCC Is a charity dedicated to helping abused and neglected children which even in today’s society is, unfortunately, extremely necessary. The Book Sale is to be held at The Plume School, Fambridge Road, Maldon on Thursday 16th, Friday 17th, Saturday 18th Feb from 10am until 4pm. and also on Sunday 20th. Feb from 10am to 2pm. The entrance to Plume School is on the left hand side of Fambridge Road to the rear of “Upper Plume” and there is an extremely large free car park available for the use of those attending the book sale which is easily accessible. As in previous years the sale will contain approximately 17000 books which equates to approx 7 tons in weight. These books cover almost every subject under the sun, fiction, non fiction, sports, pass times, hobbies, travel, English literature and also many children’s books, if you can think of a subject there is a strong possibility it can be found at this “Book Sale”. Most of these books are good quality second hand but there are many brand new and all are in good condition, we even have complete boxed sets. The Rotary Club will ensure the book sale is well signposted on all roads into Maldon and within Maldon itself, making the large Plume School car park easy to find. The President and members of The Rotary Club of Maldon are proud to have been chosen by the NSPCC yet again and we are sure the residents of Maldon and the surrounding area will, as they do at all our Rotary events, dig deeply into their pockets to help raise a large sum of money to help these dedicated and caring people in their work to help these children. We look forward to seeing you on one or more of the days of the book sale at The Plume School. We have a limited supply of carrier bags so if it’s possible for you to bring your own it will be appreciated. The Annual Women’s World Day of Prayer The Annual Women’s World Day of Prayer will take place this year on Friday, 2nd March. The morning service is at the Baptist Church, Butt Lane, Maldon at 10.30am with coffee from 10am and the Speaker is Rev. Sue Lambert. In the evening, a service will take place at The Lady of Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Victoria Road, Maldon at 7.30pm followed by refreshments. Rev. Sandra Manley will be the speaker. This year the service has been prepared by the women of Malaysia on the theme of ‘Let Justice Prevail’. All are welcome – men, women and young people.
