FRATERNAL FOCUS<br />

At our November meeting, we re-elected our current<br />

officers to serve in 2013. We will still be meeting the second<br />

Wednesday of the month at the Community Room in Wild<br />

River Apartments in Sandstone, MN.<br />

Our next meeting will be February 13.<br />

We held our last regular meeting of 2012 on December 9<br />

at the Manor. Our condolences go out to the family of long<br />

time member Reeda Valla. A memorial was sent.<br />

We have a new juvenile member, Elias Letsos.<br />

delivered them to<br />

the Seafarers Ministry in Duluth. These caps were among<br />

many distributed to crew members aboard foreign ships<br />

coming to port. We made a donation to purchase materials<br />

for this project earlier this year.<br />

Christmas. Donations are always appreciated this time of<br />

year.<br />

The election of officers was as follows: President Margaret<br />

Larsen, Secretary/Correspondent Pat Mathison, and<br />

Treasurer Bonnie Van Duker serving another year. Jim<br />

Simunovich is our new vice president.<br />

Following the meeting, we were treated to holiday music<br />

performed by the South Ridge Community Choir. We all<br />

enjoyed refreshments after the program.<br />

<strong>Members</strong> met at 11:30 a.m. at the 9 th Street Grill for our<br />

annual Christmas dinner on December 8. Following the<br />

meal, the meeting was held at Centennial Terrace with Viola<br />

Pracheil presiding.<br />

A moment of silence was held for Alyce Kemper and<br />

Lorraine Hrdlicka. A thank-you note was read from the Alyce<br />

Kemper’s family for the memorial.<br />

The members reviewed their 2013 Calendar of Events<br />

schedule.<br />

The birthday song was sung to Ed Patak celebrating on<br />

December 13.<br />

The Crete Manor volunteer bingo was scheduled for<br />

December 31. Fruit baskets were delivered to shut-ins before<br />

Christmas.<br />

Plzen No. 9, Morse Bluff, NE<br />

We held a bicycle giveaway at the Morse Bluff Fire<br />

Departments Halloween Costume Contest. The winner was<br />

Brecken Frana, 2-year old son of Kevin and Kiley Frana of<br />

Malmo, NE.<br />

<strong>Members</strong> met for our annual<br />

Thanksgiving meeting<br />

on November 15. The meeting<br />

was held at Rawhide Restaurant<br />

in North Bend. Agent Delmer<br />

Wondercheck and wife, Cindy,<br />

were guests.<br />

The meeting was called to order by President Keith Racek.<br />

The members collected and turned in 41 lbs of food items.<br />

<strong>Members</strong> were reminded to bring hygiene products for Care<br />

Corps, and pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House.<br />

Agent Delmer Wondercheck was introduced along with his<br />

wife, Cindy. He updated the members with wfla information<br />

and current Life Insurance products, single premium life<br />

insurance, and annuities, etc. <strong>Members</strong> were asked to visit<br />

with him if they had any question about anything from wfla.<br />

<strong>Members</strong> enjoyed visiting and reviewing this year’s events<br />

and activities.<br />

Dennice No. 14, Ord, NE<br />

<strong>Members</strong> met October 28 at the North Loup Cafe. The<br />

volunteer hour’s sheet was passed around, and letters from<br />

the Home Office were read. Our new members in attendance<br />

were welcomed.<br />

A moment of silence was observed in memory of our<br />

departed member Hank Benda; a card and memorial was<br />

sent to the family.<br />

Birthday cards were signed for Paul Maly who celebrated<br />

a September birthday and Minnie Maly who celebrated an<br />

October birthday. Both are long time devoted wfla members.<br />

Thank-you notes were read from Eldene Norseen for the<br />

<strong>50</strong>-<strong>75</strong> year party in which she was an honoree and Hank<br />

Benda’s family for the memorial.<br />

Two members attended the Slavin No. 112 <strong>50</strong> and <strong>75</strong>-year<br />

member party that included two guest speakers from the<br />

Czech Republic.<br />

Several donations were made to Goodwill recently by<br />

members.<br />

Welcome letters have been mailed to the new members<br />

from the September meeting. A preliminary awards form<br />

was completed, and members discussed completed and other<br />

possible activities.<br />
