Northshore Performing Arts Center during all four
performances of the Nutcracker Ballet. Our group ushered,
worked the concessions booth, and helped with fundraising.
Many thanks to Rosie and Dan Bodien, Patricia and Sarah
Klein, Brian Bianco, Bob Vernon, Pat Coram, and Marjorie
Bianco for their participation.
Another early Christmas project involved collecting
toiletries (shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes, and toothpaste),
both new and used warm clothing (sweaters, scarves, gloves,
and hats) for the Union Gospel Mission in Everett, WA.
Our first community project of 2013 is a food collection for
Kirkland’s Hopelink Food Bank.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Herbert Hnilica,
whose wife Mary, passed away after many wonderful years
together.
We send our belated birthday wishes to Victor Bilek, who
recently celebrated his 94 th birthday. Victor currently resides
in Dayton, OH but was an active participant in both the
Tacoma and Aberdeen lodges before they merged with ours.
Rosie Bodien was congratulated for her article on Art
Crystalware, which was highlighted in the Czechoslovakian
Collectors Association Fall Newsletter publication. This
article included pictures of antique perfume bottles and
provided a historic overview of Josef Schmidt’s glass cutting
and glass production shops in Czechoslovakia during the mid
1800s to the mid 1900s. Kudos to Rosie for her continuous
research of our Czech and Slovak heritage!
Our next meetings are at Claim Jumper Restaurant in
Tukwila, WA on February 23. and at Budapest Bistro in
Lynnwood, WA on March 23.

The December 11 meeting was called to order at 1 p.m.
by President Fran Marlenga at Meyer’s Family Restaurant.
We welcomed guests Carla Zevnik Seufzer, husband Kevin,
and Candace Hewitt.
FRATERNAL FOCUS
Carla, from Global View Capital Advisors, invited
members to watch a webinar on the Fiscal Cliff.
Members collected canned goods for the needy. Our
Christmas party followed.

We were happy to welcome Director Brenda Osterman
to our November meeting. Lynn Grande brought several
prospective members. They came to help brainstorm ideas
on how to get the lodge more active, and explore ways to
improve the usage of the building. We would also like input
from members as to the best time to schedule our monthly
meetings to have the best attendance. We are tentatively
looking forward to having a St. Patrick’s fun day at the hall
in March.

We need to say
a special “Thank
you” to Zula Oujiri’s family for sharing the memorial donation
to the WI/Upper MI Scholarship fund. Fran Snippen
presented a check to the Scholarship committee at the State
Convention in Mishicot in October, and shared the story of
how this came to be.
At our December meeting, we reviewed the projects we
have completed and reviewed our contributions to other
charitable organizations. In addition to the donations we are
making to the Toys for Tots program and Celebrations Inc.,
we voted to donate money to Northland College to be used
where it is most needed.

JoAnn Parks,
wfla WI/Upper-
MI state president, was able to give us a box of Boyd Bears
for us to use to enhance our charitable endeavors. As a
start, we donated a pillow of bears to the Ashland New Day
Shelter. Fran Snippen brought 35 Fire Safety color books and
wfla pencils to the kindergarten, first, and second graders
at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School, as well as a
number of Campbell’s soup labels, milk tops, and Box Tops
for Education, to assist them in getting needed supplies and
accessories for the classrooms. New greeting cards were given
to the residents at the Bay Towers Senior Citizen complex
for their use.
For now, our officers will stay the same with Lynn Grande
added as a new three year trustee.
